National Identity Cards

NOTICE

ISSUANCE OF NATIONAL IDENTITY CARDS (ID’s)

 

 

i. Replacements

 

This category involves those persons who had acquired the previous first generation Identity Cards and have not been able to replace them with the current 2nd generation Identity Card. The 1st generation Identity Card was invalidated in April 2009. A registered person will need to produce proof of the previous registration i.e. produce the 1st generation Identity Card or its copy. Alternatively a search/confirmation will be undertaken prior to the replacement application.

 

ii. Duplicates

This category involves persons who are holding the second generation identity cards and have been lost or rendered unserviceable due to one reason or another. Evidence of registration in terms of Identity Card number will be needed before the filling of the application forms i.e. produce the Identity Card or copy.

 

iii. Change of Particulars

This category of registration deals with female applicants who desire to change their names due to change in marital status.

 

NOTE: Applicants for categories (i) to (iii) who have previously held Identity Cards and they need to replace them should visit the Kenya High Commission for the necessary procedures. They are not required to fill form Reg.136A. They will however be required to complete form Reg. 136 C which will be provided at the Kenya High Commission.

 

iv. Not Previously Registered (NPR)

These are the children of Kenyans born outside Kenya or may have been born in Kenya and travelled with their parents and have now attained the eligible age of 18 years and above. For this category there will be need to determine the citizenship status before registration. This category will be required to complete form Reg.136A which can be downloaded on line.

 

NOTES TO FILLING FORM REG. 136A

 

· Form Reg 136A- To be completed by persons who have not been previously issued with an Identity Card.

· The top section of form Reg.136A referring to Photo, Serial No., Identity No., Fingerprint Classification is for official use only.

· Applicant to complete Form Reg 136A from No.1 to No.22.

 

o No.1: Names should be completed as they should appear in the Identity Card (I.D.)

o No.4: Father’s Names- Where applicable.

o No.6,7,8: Where applicable

o No.9: Can also be the country of birth if born outside Kenya

o No.13-18: Should be Kenyan particulars.

o No.21 (3): Can be both or either of the parent

o No.21 (4): For persons who have acquired Kenyan Citizenship by either registration or naturalization.

o No.21 (5): For example: School certification, adoption certificate, marriage certificate etc.

o No.23 (a): Witness- Should be a Kenyan who has known you for more than 5 years

o No.23 (b) and 24, and Right and Left thumbprints to be completed by the High Commission Officers.
