MR. KARUIRU AND MISS SHONI GACHINA WEDDING AT BOTANIC
GARDENS, KAREN, KENYA ON SATURDAY 10TH JULY, 2010
A colourful wedding took place on Saturday 11th July, 2010 in Nairobi between Shoni Gachina Karuiru. The ceremony took place at Botanic Gardens, Karen next to Kenya School of Law. Both the wedding and the reception were held at the same venue. Miss Margaret Njiiri (Daughter Seed) was one of the maids at the wedding. The wedding kicked off at about 11.00 a.m. when the music started without any bridal party in sight. "Now ladies and gentlemen, can we stand up for the wedding." the master of ceremony explained. No sight of the bridal team but at last far away behind somewhere in the bush, the first bride appeared. Borrowing all kinds styles, local and international the first maid took her time to display her talents in dancing all the way to the officiating church minister under the tree. Good communication as the second maid appeared from the bush in a different direction to the end followed suit by the entire bridal party. The bride followed thereafter being held by the father and mother Mr. & Mrs. David Gachina Muriithi who happens to be a brother to the former Nairobi Mayor, Nathan Kahara. All the maids had artificial tatoo somewhere. The wedding and the reception was classic, I haven't attended a better before.

Everyone listened carefully to the High Commissioner speech but interrupting with shouts of joys whenever he read a paragraph they agree with especially the Dual Citizens, women's right and above all that the MPs will from now be paying tax. The High Commissioner explained in his speech: "I want to begin by saluting all Kenyans living and working here in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland on this historic occasion when we are celebrating the inauguration of the new Kenya Constitution. Fellow Kenyans, you should all be very proud as Kenyans to note that the New Constitution inaugurated in Nairobi today, has replaced the old constitution which was negotiated in Lancaster House, here in London in 1963. The New Constitution is also truly indigenous in that it was drafted in Kenya by Kenyans and for Kenyans and therefore having the authentic ownership of Kenyans. Indeed, the new constitution is about our great nation of Kenya, our People, our hopes, and aspirations. In this respect, we the Kenyan diaspora here in the UK joins hands with other Kenyans to celebrate as we embark on the process of national renewal under the new constitution." the High Commissioner explained.

Kenyans are now shifting to have weddings on a weekday rather than the weekend. The few we have attended looks very classy with who is who as the guests. This wedding on Friday 11th December, 2009 was a top one with the usual Range Rover sports which are becoming very popular than the Benzes we have been used to. Diana and Charles had their reception at Limuru on the golf course. Several millions were spent here. Photos by Karuga wa Njuguna, Nairobi, Kenya.

A bull was slaughter and grilled with the latest technology ever witnessed in recent times by J's Grill. It was an Ox grilling machine that was imported from Germany. Speaking to the owner Jacqueline Anampiu, she said she got the idea when she visited Germany over summer time and got them doing the grilling. Asked about how much it was to hire it she said. “it only cost forty thousand for the machine and labour plus additional two hundred shillings per kilo is charged of the cooked bull.” At this wedding the bull was five hundred kilos and took about 9 hrs for it to be well done. The machine is then towed using a Range rover.
At the reception there were TV screens because you could not see the front due to the distance and the number of the guests at the venue. Speaking to one of the officials, he said the wedding was costing 6 million shillings on the day and no doubt it was worth it. After the wedding the bridal party together with friends headed to Jockey club at Ngong Race Course for mugithi and more refreshments. Spotted guests included Hon Beth Mugo, former Naivasha MP Jane Kihara and Kinangop MP Hon David Ngugi. This year has been the best for Paul Muchene Kinuthia.
