The first transsexual policeman
Sex-swap recruits are being deliberately signed up by police chiefs for the
first time. London’s Metropolitan force has taken on a 39-year-old transsexual
woman who had surgery to make her a man. He is now set to undergo training at
the police college in Hendon, North London. It is thought to be the first time a
transsexual has knowingly been hired as a UK cop.
But there have been several examples of officers switching sex AFTER
joining the force.
A 25-year-old woman serving at Brixton nick in South London changed sex last
summer.
But ironically, the law does not recognise gender changes.
So sex-swap cops will NOT be allowed to search suspects.
It would be illegal for a policeman born a woman to “frisk” a man.
And no male cop — whatever their original sex — would be allowed to search a
woman.
The Met’s personnel bosses gave the go-ahead for their historic recruitment
policy after key meetings with top brass.
And the force is now expected to place ads in the gay press welcoming job
applications from transsexuals under the Met’s equal opportunities scheme.
But the move was last night branded “political correctness gone mad”.
And police chiefs will face revolt in the ranks over sex-swap cops sharing loos
and showers with those of their new gender.
Former Flying Squad boss John O’ Connor stormed: “It’s outrageous. It makes
Carry On Constable look like front-line policing.
“What the public want is an officer with a well-balanced normal life.”
And a Met source asked: “Where are we going to recruit transsexuals — Madame
JoJo’s? Imagine The Sweeney’s Jack Regan as Jacqueline!”
But the Met insisted last night: “This new policy will help us make the
organisation more representative of the communtities we serve.” - The Sun,

Bus kills romping couple
|
Victim ... Kim Fontana, 32 |
Victim ... Paul Cowley, 40 |
Accused ... Paul Liversage |
A BUS driver ran over and killed a courting couple as
they romped in the middle of the road at midnight, a court heard yesterday. Paul
Liversage mistook Kim Fontana, 32, and Paul Cowley, 40, for a bag of rubbish as
he drove along in his single decker.
By the time he spotted it was two people it was too late to stop. The couple
died from massive head and abdominal injuries. Minutes earlier, off-duty
paramedic Robert Gorringe halted his car in front of the canoodling couple. They
refused to move and he was forced to manoeuvre around them on the poorly-lit
road. He told Sheffield magistrates: “They were right on the white line. I
sounded my horn three times, but it had no effect on them.
“It was a male and a female and I could see the man was on top. I shouted ‘You
want to get up or otherwise you’ll be run over.’ “The man simply said
‘Cheers mate’ and I heard a female voice laughing.” Another bus driver, Colin
Carter, was behind Mr Gorringe and also had to swerve to avoid hitting the
couple, who had been out on a date.
Mr Carter said: “They were both wearing very dark clothing. I was thankful
someone had been in front of me otherwise it could have been me running them
over because I’d never have seen them.”
Minutes later Mr Liversage, 56, did hit the couple.
Prosecutor Angela Wrottesley said Mr Liversage had been driving with his
headlights dipped in Westfield, Sheffield, and had not braked until the last
minute. She added: “His driving fell below the standard one would reasonably
expect of a prudent, competent driver.”
Police accident investigator Michael Whittingham said Kim was lying on her back
and Paul was either lying or kneeling between her legs. He said: “One can expect
a pedestrian in the road walking or running, but to expect a driver to
anticipate pedestrians lying in the road is out of the ordinary.” Mr Liversage
denies careless driving. The case goes on.- The Sun, London.
A "dishonest" Harley Street cosmetic surgeon who carried out two botched penis enlargement operations has been struck off.
Dr Ravi Kang Agarwal, 54, of Stockport, Greater Manchester, was found guilty of serious professional misconduct by the General Medical Council (GMC).
The Manchester hearing was told one operation had left a patient with a shorter and disfigured penis.
He said he had passed out with shock after seeing his penis following the operation in Manchester.
The 47-year-old patient, referred to as Mr A throughout, said it was black, shorter and deformed, adding: "I was in severe pain".
He had seen an advert in the magazine Men's Health and underwent the £3,250 in May 1997.
Dr Agarwal had said the length of the organ was increased by dividing the suspensory ligament to make the penis hang lower.
The technique also aimed to increase the organ's girth by injecting fat taken from the stomach and thighs.
Garrie Dunk, a 42-year-old male stripper from Sheffield, told the GMC he underwent the same procedure in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, in May 1997 in order to help his career.
He said he could not go to the toilet for two days after the operation, adding: "There was tremendous swelling for about six or seven weeks."
Mr Dunk also claimed his marriage failed due to the operation and said he went back to Dr Agarwal on five occasions for more fat to be put in.
He told the hearing: "On the last occasion he injected it on the right hand side of the penis and I was in pain and ever since then it's been bent."
The GMC was also told of Dr Agarwal's adverts which claimed he had "unrivalled experience" in carrying out the operations.
It claimed to increase the length of the penis by up to three inches and the girth by between 30% and 90%.
Professor Denis McDevitt, chairman of the GMC's professional conduct committee, said Dr Agarwal had acted dishonestly.
He had failed to explain the possible complications of the procedure, was misleading as to the likely outcome of the operation and had failed to take an adequate history from the patient.
He also failed to obtain informed consent and failed to arrange for adequate anaesthetic back-up during the surgery.
Prof McDevitt told Dr Agarwal: "The committee are of the view that your behaviour is fundamentally incompatible with being a doctor because of your dishonesty and the abuses of trust which you have shown, particularly in relation to vulnerable patients."
Appointment with death
|
Peace at last ... Reginald Crew |
Deadly dose ... the barbiturate which brings on |
Up to 50 more Britons are queuing to end their lives at a Swiss suicide clinic, The Sun can reveal. And the centre’s boss, Ludwig Minelli, boasts that he expects a surge of desperate people from this country to sign up for a one-way visit. Former journalist Mr Minelli believes the story of Reginald Crew’s suicide will bring extra numbers paying around £50 for an appointment with death. Motor neurone disease sufferer Reginald, 74, of Liverpool, died on Monday after drinking a lethal dose of barbiturates. He sought help from the Zurich-based organisation Dignitas because assisting a suicide is illegal in the UK. The nerve-centre of Dignitas is a bland fourth-floor apartment in the suburb of Wiedikon where clients go to die. It is in a dingy, Sixties block with chocolate-brown garage doors and beige outside walls. It is just across the road from a kindergarten.
A simple sign with the word Dignitas is the only clue that this is no normal flat. Neighbours in the block at 84 Gertrudstrasse are pensioners, young professionals and families plus some small businesses. Beside the 20 doorbells on the outside wall is a glass door leading to a dank, stark lobby. A bright-red lift whisks you up to the death flat. Like all the other apartments it has a solid wood, green and black front door and a labelled buzzer. Inside the flat is a kitchen stocked with utensils, crockery, tea towels, and kitchen rolls. There are beers in the fridge. There is a bathroom and a main room with two single beds, complete with sheets and pillows, tucked against the wall. The apartment is full of green plants and on one wall there is a landscape painting. On another is an impressionist oil painting of a naked woman.
|
The
journey home ... Mr Crew's coffin is carried |
Boss ... Ludwig Minelli |
A candle and a posy of fresh flowers sit on a table in the middle of the room. They are among the last things the suicides will see before they take their lethal drugs and fall asleep for ever. On Tuesday, Mr Minelli, 70, refused to say exactly how many Britons had already asked to die with his help. But he said in a phone call with The Sun: “I think the number of people joining the group will increase after these articles in the British papers.” It was in Mr Minelli’s apartment, in the wealthy Zurich suburb of Forch, that he explained to former docker Mr Crew how he was going to die. The paralysed pensioner was then taken by car on a half-hour drive to the flat in Wiedikon. He died within an hour of sipping a lethal overdose of sodium pentobarbitol prepared by nurse Erika Lulley. The drug, a barbiturate and sedative, slows down the central nervous system, leading to delirium, coma and death in less than an hour.
Barbiturates in general are extremely toxic and ten prescription tablets may be fatal. They are not used in medicine widely now because it is so easy to overdose on them. Mr Crew, who was confined to a wheelchair, had flown to Zurich with the help of his loyal wife Winifred, 71, and their daughter Jan Healey, 41. It means they could be charged with aiding and abetting a suicide — an offence in English law that carries a maximum 14 years in jail. Police are also looking into reports that ITV’s Tonight With Trevor McDonald programme bankrolled the trip. Mr Minelli compares himself with Thomas More, Henry VIII’s Lord Chancellor, who believed that voluntary death was honourable and merciful. His heroes include Winston Churchill.
His views on euthanasia probably grew out of the trauma of watching his grandmother die from kidney failure when he was a 14-year-old. He remembers that she asked the doctor not to give her any medication to keep her alive. He says: “It seemed right, the compassionate thing. I watched and learnt.” Minelli, who has two daughters and three grandchildren, says his family support his work. And even though he was raised as a Roman Catholic — a religion which regards suicide as a sin — he would have no hesitation in using his charity’s services if the need arose. He says he is an atheist now and does not believe in afterlife. He says: “I’m a human being. When I see someone who is in need I want to help. And I believe a person should have the right to take their own life if that is what they want.” Minelli defends his charity’s work and Mr Crew’s assisted suicide. He says: “I understand that euthanasia can be abused but this is very specific. “When cancer patients are terminally ill they are given diamorphine, and if they contract pneumonia they are not treated for it, because that is the kindest thing. Why is this different?”
He adds: “Death is inevitable in a case like Reg’s and all you are doing is bringing it forward slightly to spare the agony at the end. “Watching a man who was so fit and active fade away in front of your eyes is heartbreaking.” Dignitas charges a membership fee but does not charge for its services because making a profit from assisted suicide is illegal under Swiss law. However, assisted suicide itself has been legal since 1942 as long as the drugs are self-administered and the person is making a rational decision to die. Membership of the charity more than doubled last year to around 1,650 and more are joining every month. Membership is open to anyone, whether they are ill or not, with a registration fee of 100 Swiss Francs (£46) and a minimum annual membership fee of £10.
Ex-docker Mr Crew was the 147th person Dignitas has helped to die. Some people are rejected by the charity if their desire to end it all is not considered strong enough. Mr Minelli says: “We talk to them all about their problems. If it seems there really is no solution then we put them forward. But first we do everything we can to help.” Mr Minelli says there have been cases of people changing their minds at the last minute. An elderly Greek Orthodox woman from Beirut arrived in Zurich only to tell Mr Minelli she was afraid of going to hell because she had not said goodbye to her sisters. She went back to Beirut, said her farewells, then returned to Zurich a fortnight later and went ahead with the suicide. A woman from Munich got as far as the sitting room in the suicide apartment before telling Mr Minelli she could not go through with it. He says he gave her a hug and drove her all the way home to Munich. Dignitas members who convince the charity that they want to die must provide birth and marriage certificates and make advance burial or cremation arrangements.
They will be assessed at Mr Minelli’s home by doctors and be given the prescription for their drugs overdose which Mr Minelli or another charity worker will collect from a pharmacy. When the door to the death flat opens, the would-be suicide is greeted by Dignitas staff — usually Mr Minelli and at least two hospice-trained nurses. Mr Minelli says: “It is not hard for me to meet someone who is going to be dead in a few hours because it is what they want. “We will all die in the end. What I find hard is understanding why governments force their subjects to leave the country to seek help or make them so desperate that they throw themselves under trains or off buildings. “That is a cruelty. It is Nazism in reverse. The Nazis forced people to die miserable deaths. Governments force people to live miserable lives.” Neighbours of the apartment where Mr Crew died were divided yesterday over how the flat is used. Designer Hans Rudolf Ziegler said: “I know what happens at Dignitas but it is difficult to explain how I feel. “I can’t say it is a good thing to happen here — but what can I do about it.” Angela Gantenbein said: “Perhaps it would be better to be done away from people’s homes. It doesn’t seem OK.” But another neighbour, Daniel Vontobel, said: “There is no problem for me. It does not disturb me.” The producers of ITV’s Tonight with Trevor McDonald could be quizzed by police investigating the mercy killing of Mr Crew.
Police have already confirmed that they are to question the dead man’s widow about his death. A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said: “Under British law we are obliged to investigate this matter. “This decision is not a moral one, but a legal one. “We are putting files together and will be taking to Mrs Crew as part of our investigation. “Our completed file will be passed on to the Crown Prosecution Service and they will decide if any prosecutions are to be made. “Consultations have already taken place between ourselves, the CPS and the Liverpool Coroner.” It is understood that anyone who took part in making arrangements for Mr Crew’s death will be a subject of the investigation. A police source said: “It is likely that will include the Tonight with Trevor McDonald programme-makers, since they appear to have been closely involved.” The Sun on Tuesday visited the apartment where Mr Crew spent his final moments. When our reporter pushed the buzzer beside the door there was no reply. - The Sun, London.

He even told them that it would cost £3,000 to secure an organ from a living donor. |
A Coventry, UK, GP has been found guilty of involvement in the trade in human organs from live donors.
Dr Jarnail Singh had denied charges that he had encouraged and participated in the practice, which is banned in the UK.
However, a General Medical Council professional conduct committee hearing on Tuesday found him guilty of unprofessional and irresponsible behaviour.
The committee has retired to consider whether these offences amount to serious professional misconduct. If they do, Dr Singh faces being struck off the medical register.
The GMC hearing was told on Monday that Dr Singh agreed in principle to help out two undercover journalists, who approached him for advice about how to arrange a live donor transplant.
The hearing heard that Dr Singh told the men - who were working for the Sunday Times - that he had helped others in a similar situation.
He even told them that it would cost £3,000 to secure an organ from a living donor.
Failed trip
The journalists approached Dr Singh after being told that he had arranged for one of his own patients, Darshan Singh, to go to India for a similar procedure.
Mr Singh, 69, travelled to the sub-contintent for surgery, but died after contracting an infection.
The GMC hearing was told how the journalists, Paul Samrai and Neville Thurlbeck, approached Dr Singh claiming that Mr Thurlbeck's father was dying and needed a transplant.
They claimed his condition was deteriorating rapidly and his son was willing to pay up to £25,000 for him to travel to India for the operation, the committee heard.
After a short telephone call the pair met Dr Singh the following day and discussed the possibility of going abroad for a live donor transplant.
Dr Singh took them through how much they would need to pay, the advantages of having the surgery in England if possible and how they could avoid the authorities to do so.
Many cases
He then indicated that he was aware of dozens of other cases a year and that he had acted as a facilitator in the past.
Opening the case against Dr Singh, Jeremy Roussak, counsel for the GMC, said: "Dr Singh answered all their questions, expressed no reservations, gave them no indication that what they were doing was illegal, unethical and dangerous."
When offered £5,000 to help arrange the operation, Dr Singh refused the money but gave the pair the impression he was happy to help in whatever way he could, the committee was told.
Giving evidence, Mr Samrai said: "My view was that he had the full knowledge of what we were proposing to do and was happy to assist in whatever capacity that he could."
Doctor's evidence
Dr Singh told the hearing he had refused to take on Mr Thurlbeck's father as a patient, and so was in no position to "faciliate" any trip to India.
Although he knew of many cases of people who had travelled for transplants from living donors, he denied admitting to offering active assistance.
Instead, he said he had simply offered friendly advice to two men who seemed determined to seek out a live donor, regardless of whether it was legal or not.
Six weeks ago a London GP, Dr Bhagat Singh Makkar, was struck off the medical register after boasting to a reporter that he could organise a kidney transplant in the UK or abroad for a fee. - BBC, London.

Teenager pregnant ten times
A GIRL aged just 16 has been pregnant TEN TIMES, a shocked doctor revealed on Wednesday 2nd October, 2002. The youngster kept two of the babies, had three abortions and is believed to have lost the other five through miscarriages. Dr Sarah Creighton discovered the girl’s horrifying record while carrying out research in South East London. And she said: “My research hit me in the face. I was completely unprepared for the sexual cases I encountered.” Dr Creighton revealed that the girl had first fallen pregnant at the age of 12. But she said it was not known if the same man was responsible for all the pregnancies or whether the girl had a number of different partners.
The doctor said it was known that the girl had suffered abuse, and had been seeing a counsellor for some time.
Her case was unearthed when Dr Creighton studied the records of 144 girls aged between 12 and 16 who visited a sexual diseases clinic.
The research revealed that girls under 16 are THREE TIMES more likely to catch a sexually transmitted disease than older women.
More than three quarters of the girls also admitted they were not using contraception. Most had been pregnant at least once.
Dr Creighton said: “It was not just sexual ignorance. They knew that if they didn’t use a condom they were at risk of infection.”
The girls knew their partners were sleeping with other women, said the doctor. But she added: “They were unable to negotiate safe sex — to insist on a condom.
“What shocked me was the number of girls who came back time and again with another infection or pregnancy.
“The first time may have been through ignorance but by four times we’d hope the message had got through.”
Dr Creighton said her research — published in the journal Sexually Transmitted Infections — showed keeping a sexual partner was more important to girls than looking after their health.
The youngsters studied by Dr Creighton attended a clinic at King’s College Hospital in Camberwell.
The area around the hospital has one of the highest abortion rates in Britain. - The Sun, London.
Boot for 'noisy sex' mum
London, 25th September, 2002

Court fight.......Tara
A MUM is facing eviction after her neighbour said she was driven bonkers by noisy sex romps.
Tara Campbell’s moans of passion were so loud they kept fed-up Joan McLaughlin awake, a court heard.
Joan claimed she could hear Tara’s bed “creaking and creaking” through the walls of their semis.
Now council officials have taken Tara, 30, to court to get her kicked out after 200 complaints about loud sex, pounding music, swearing and dumping rubbish.
Mum-of-three Tara claimed yesterday the groans Joan could hear were her son crying in pain after hurting his arm. But married Joan, 42, told Newcastle County Court: “No way. I know that sound when I hear it.
“People can have sex any time they like but I don’t expect to be woken up by it in the middle of the night.”
Tara is fighting eviction from the house in North Shields, Tyneside, saying neighbours had made up the allegations.
The hearing continues.

In USA, a Sculptor has built this amazing house in
the shape of a woman’s naked body — and sleeps behind one of her BOOBS.
Madcap Armando Munoz Garcia put the bathroom in her bottom and the living room
in her tummy. The 48-year-old started building the shapely property 12 years ago
— and in that time it has become a huge hit with locals. Its living room,
complete with TV, has a hot tub with a mermaid carved on the floor and is
decorated with Armando’s paintings. The three-storey building stands at the
corner of a street on a hillside in Rosarito, Mexico. Armando, who shares the
house with girlfriend Isabel Magana, said he built the magnificent home because
he loves sex. Asked why he slept behind the right breast, he said: “Maybe
because I like them.”
The bedroom is ample enough for a double bed and sofa. The house, which even has
a swimming pool around the waist and a patio, will be finished when Armando
completes the head. He plans to give the woman long curly hair. The house, which
has a staircase between each floor, is the SECOND naked woman
home constructed by Armando. His first was a 50ft building in the Mexican border
town of Tijuana — but it has since fallen into disrepair. Cuddling up to Isabel,
Armando said yesterday: “What more can a man ask for?”
Should the artist ever decide to sell his pad, he could advertise it as a
desirable residence with plenty of charms, a stunning view — and all the bare
essentials.

Evil Rebecca Graham was poisoning
her daughter by lacing milk with salt
AN evil mum tried to poison her baby by putting lethal doses of salt in her bottle. Rebecca Graham, 20, laced the girl’s feed for SIX MONTHS because she could not be bothered to look after her. But she was snared when a nurse became suspicious and sent a bottle for tests. Graham’s daughter had been taken into hospital at a month old with diarrhoea and vomiting. Baffled experts initially blamed over-feeding.
Graham made up bottles for the tot throughout her hospital stay. Then a nurse spilt one — and was horrified to discover the contents were salty when she tasted it. Bottles of the formula prepared by Graham were sent for analysis with samples of food prepared by staff. The amount of salt in drinks made by Graham was 30 TIMES higher. The mum tried to mask the crime by hinting at cystic fibrosis — which Graham claimed she and partner Robert Hogarth, 20, suffered as children. But medical records showed she had never been diagnosed with the illness.
Then a nurse found 24 salt sachets in her bag — and Graham was arrested. Prosecutor John Wilkinson told Newcastle Crown Court she wanted the tot hospitalised so she would not have to look after her. Graham, of Stanley, Durham, at first denied lacing the bottles. But her mum Marie later told police she had been present when a health worker warned Graham about the dangers of salt.
The tot, now 20 months old, is fully recovered and has been adopted. Graham admitted administering poison and cruelty and got 18 months in a young offenders’ institution. Judge Michael Cartlidge told her: “What you did was a terrible crime against your child.” David Callan, defending, said the baby was Graham’s first. He added: “This is a case of a very unhappy lady who for most of the time was a good mother.” - The Sun, London.
'Depressed' Kelly Hughes dumped
tiny son James in scalding bath water
MUM Kelly Hughes put her son in scalding water because “he did her head in”. Hughes, 22, then claimed two-year-old James was to blame for injuring himself, a court heard. But she was rumbled after her mother and sister collected the tot from her home. Hughes met them outside and said James had burnt his leg when he fell in the bath. She claimed the injury — hidden under clothes — had been dressed by a nurse.
But on the way home, Hughes’ alarmed sister Tracy noticed something wrong with the lad’s leg. The women undressed him and discovered fluid oozing from his burns. His gran hurried James to a doctor, who said he was in great pain and going into shock. The tot was taken to Liverpool’s Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, where a specialist concluded he had been deliberately dipped in hot water.
James was kept in for eight days while his mum went “through a pantomime for the benefit of the gran”. Karl Scholtz, prosecuting, said: “At first she said James had entered the bath himself. “Then she blamed another child who was at the house. Eventually she confessed she had done it herself.”
Mr Scholtz revealed Hughes said: “He has really done my head in. My head is bad. “I just picked him up and dumped him in it. I didn’t realise what I was doing. “Then I panicked and ran out of the house.” She later admitted knowing the water was hot. Hughes, of Holyhead, Anglesey, admitted causing grievous bodily harm at Warrington Crown Court. But after hearing she was depressed, Judge David Hale ordered reports and freed her on bail.
He said: “I don’t want to punish you unless it’s absolutely necessary. “Prison is not at the forefront of my mind. It is not where I want you to go.” - The Sun, London.

Bald as a coot... red-skinned, featherless chicken bred by genetic experts |
"The bottom line here is profit but it should be animal welfare." The red-skinned fowl is the creation of Israeli genetics expert Avigdor Cahaner. |
EXPERTS have bred a bald chicken that they reckon will
be tastier and lower in fat than its feathered relatives. The naked fowl is also
designed to grow faster than normal broilers and be more "environmentally
friendly" because there is no need to waste energy plucking it. But animal
rights groups last night condemned the boffins who bred the bird and demanded
their experiments be stopped. Joyce D'Silva, of Compassion in World
Farming, said: "It's appalling. It has been done so they can crowd chickens
together in sheds in hot countries."
Adrian Bebb of Friends of the Earth added: "This is scientists tampering with our food again just to make it even cheaper. "I think it will have a traumatic effect on the animals and the public will be horrified." Spencer Fitzgibbon, from the Green Party, said: “It’s a monster of an animal. We should be working with nature, not against it.
"The bottom line here is profit but it should be animal welfare." The red-skinned fowl is the creation of Israeli genetics expert Avigdor Cahaner.
He said it would grow faster in hot weather because it was not prone to over-heating like normal birds, whose growth rate drops when they get too warm.
Mr Cahaner said: "That is why poultry meat is expensive in hot countries." - The Sun, 21st May 2002.

The wife ... Paul and his wife Rachel meet up in a park at Easter
A LOVE cheat who ran off with his mother-in-law has dumped her — and gone home to face his wife’s fury. Love rat Paul Stanford last night admitted: “Sleeping with my mum-in-law wasn’t right.”
Shame-faced Paul, 38, spoke after he ended his fling with Anne White, 50, and returned to her daughter — his wife Rachel.
The randy bed spring maker described his family affair as “a moment of weakness.”
He said: “I’m not proud of it. I’ve never had an affair before but Anne came on strongly and I couldn’t resist.
“I’ve never been very good at saying no to people but afterwards I felt so guilty.
“Even though we carried on I was never comfortable with it.”
But then hunky Paul added: “I must admit, I’ve always had a thing about older women.
“It’s a long-standing joke between me and Rachel that I fancy people like Helen Mirren and Linda Bellingham from the Oxo adverts.”
Paul insisted that it was Anne who seduced him.
And at one point in the racy saga he was even bedding both Rachel AND her mum — sometimes on the same day.
Rachel, 28, said: “It’s sick. I’m utterly disgusted by what Paul’s done. I love him and we’re trying to work it out but we have a lot of talking to do.
“It feels weird having sex with him knowing that he’s slept with my mum, but he is my husband after all.
“I blame her for what’s happened. As far as I’m concerned I don’t have a mother any more and I will never ever speak to her again.
“How could she betray her own daughter? I would never hurt my children.”
Paul said: “I realise I’ve been a fool. I thought I loved Anne. “But I was confused and I think she pushed me into thinking things I didn’t really feel.
“Now I think it must have been infatuation or just the excitement and danger of something different.
“I don’t love Anne. Rachel is the one I love and I really want to make a go of it.”
The amazing love triangle was first revealed by The Sun in March.
Rachel’s mum and her dad Stephen, who have two other children, welcomed Paul into their family when the couple married in October 1997.
A year ago relatives in Trowbridge, Wilts, became suspicious after they noticed Anne and fitness-mad Paul spending time together. They went out jogging and were spotted flirting.
Rachel was warned but Paul insisted nothing was going on.
Then as Anne’s marriage crumbled she confided in Paul about her unhappiness — and the pair grew closer.
By then Paul’s relationship with Rachel, a customer service adviser with a mobile phone company, was also in trouble.
The couple had both been working on different shifts and barely saw each other. Paul said: “I was a shoulder to cry on for Anne. I used to give her a hug when she was down
And she helped me when I talked of problems with Rachel.
I was stressed and she listened. We got on really well.”
Their friendship turned to passion last July.
Paul says Anne pounced on him after one of their twice-weekly runs.
They raced upstairs at Anne and Stephen’s house, where they had sex on the spare bed.
Paul said: “I couldn’t believe what I’d done. Anne was attractive but I’d never looked at her in that way before.
“I felt so guilty for Stephen and for Rachel. I think Anne and I just got closer over time. We needed each other. It wasn’t an instant sexual attraction.”
The couple had secret sex romps while Stephen, 49, a project co-ordinator for a charity, was out playing badminton.
Rachel said: “They’d go for a three-mile run and Paul wouldn’t be back for four hours — but I didn’t suspect anything.
“She plagued Paul with dozens of text messages a day, things like ‘Thinking of you’, and I still didn’t notice. You don’t imagine your husband sleeping with your mother.”
But last October Stephen caught the pair canoodling in a multi-storey car park just after their 30th wedding anniversary.
Anne confessed and moved into a one-bedroom flat in Trowbridge by herself.
Furious Rachel stormed round to confront her mother — and found her husband there.
She said: “My mother told me to stay away or she’d call the police and have me arrested. I went mad.”
Paul came outside to calm Rachel down and the pair had a massive bust-up in the street.
Hysterical Rachel fell and shattered her knee as she tried to take a swing at her husband.
Paul moved in with Anne. But two weeks later he went BACK to Rachel and their daughters, aged eight and four, to patch things up.
They talked of moving out of the area and spent Christmas and the New Year together. Rachel hoped the affair was over.
But on February 5 she woke to find Paul had packed his bags and gone back to her mum — apparently for good.
He left a brief note saying: “I don’t love you any more. I love your mum.”
Rachel said: “I thought things had been going OK. Our sex life had picked up and we were both making an extra-special effort.
“I was completely devastated. I had to tell my daughters that their dad had gone to live with grandma. It broke my heart.
“It would have been easier to accept if it was just some floozy — but not my own mother.”
Paul added: “I don’t know what I was thinking at the time. I was really mixed up.
“Anne kept telling me she loved me and she was pressuring me to leave Rachel for her. I thought that I loved her too.”
Paul said Anne was busy planning their future together. But within a month Paul was seeing Rachel AGAIN behind Anne’s back.
Rachel said: “Paul started coming round and see the kids.
“When the girls were at school or in bed Paul and I used to sleep together. I couldn’t help myself.
“He’d come round a couple of times a week and we’d spend the whole day in in bed. Then he’d go back to mum.
“It felt strange but I loved him and I wanted him back.
“It did cross my mind that he could have had sex with her on the same day as me but I tried not to think about it.”
A month ago Paul finally decided to leave Anne while she was away working at a charity shop in Swindon, Wilts.
He left a note saying: “I’m really sorry I can’t stay, but I need some time on my own.”
In reality he had moved back in with Rachel and the girls.
Rachel has now abandoned divorce plans and she and Paul are hoping to make a new start.
He has landed a job on the South Coast and once he is settled Rachel and the girls will join him.
Rachel said: “My dad is obviously not Paul’s greatest fan and hasn’t spoken to him yet. But he wants me to be happy.”
Gutted Stephen, who still lives in the marital home in Trowbridge, is divorcing Anne.
Anne is on holiday in Greece with a female friend this week.
Devastated Rachel added: “I’ll never forgive her. I never want to see her again.
“She betrayed me and not once has she tried to say sorry.”

A farmer who butchered up to 54 women

Loner ... Pickton preyed on prostitutes and junkies

Pickton ... did he kill all these women?
|
A FARMER butchered up to 54 women — then minced their bodies in a woodchopper and fed them to his pigs, shocked police believe. Horrifyingly, many of the hogs were then slaughtered and made into sausages.
Cops say bearded misfit Robert “Willy” Pickton, 52, began his campaign of murder almost 20 years ago. They claim the balding, unkempt Canadian preyed on hookers and junkies, luring them to his ramshackle farm in a suburb of Vancouver with promises of help and friendship.
Many were targeted at wild, drug-fuelled parties at a club called Piggy’s
Palace which bachelor Pickton — known as Farmer Willy — ran in an outhouse on
the ten-acre holding.
He allegedly made millions by selling off parcels of his land to housing
developers, who built suburban estates around the perimeter of the squalid
property.
But Pickton continued to live in a shabby trailer on the rubbish-strewn pig farm. And investigators have been unable to work out how he squandered so much money. Pickton was arrested on February 5 — on a charge of illegally possessing two firearms.
But a search carried out by officers at the time uncovered the first evidence of an appalling killing spree. So far, Pickton has been charged with six murders. But as details of the bloodbath began to emerge, police reopened investigations into another 48 women reported missing or found dead in the Vancouver region since 1983.
Cops this week found human remains including teeth at the farm. They have seized a machine like a giant butcher’s mincer — with rotating blades designed to reduce trees to firewood. They also removed a large freezer from the farm which Pickton had used to store chunks of meat.
Vancouver cops — who have enlisted a 100-strong taskforce to help with the gruesome probe — said other remains were found in nearby storage lockers. Pickton will face trial in November accused of murdering Andrea Joesbury, 22, Sereena Abotsway, 29, Diane Rock, 34, Heather Bottomley, 28, Jacqueline McDonell, 23, and Mona Wilson.
Jacqueline vanished in 1999. The others disappeared last year. The teeth found at the farm were Mona’s, police said this week. And cops told Sereena’s foster parents Anna and Bert Draayers that experts had confirmed her body was among the dead. Distraught Anna — who took in Sereena as a four-year-old — said last night: “We don’t know if they have found Sereena’s whole body.
“But Bert and I wanted to confirm publicly that the police told us Sereena’s remains have been found so that 53 other families don’t have to wonder if this is their child whose remains the police are talking about.”
Murder victim Andrea lived at the decrepit Roosevelt Hotel in downtown Vancouver which investigators discovered was a regular haunt of Pickton.
Clients said one of the farmer’s former girlfriends often invited women who used the hotel to parties at Piggy’s Palace. Pickton ran Piggy’s with his younger brother Dave — who has issued a statement denying he knew anything about the alleged murder rampage.
Town hall officials shut down the club in December 1998 because of its wild reputation. Council chiefs said thousands of locals had visited Piggy’s — and taken part in hog-roasts. A neighbour who visited it in 1998 claimed she saw hookers being “interviewed” for sexual services.
She added: “I only went once and I’d never go again.
“It was a very raunchy crowd — lots of cocaine, lots of really, really bad, bad,
bad-ass people.”
Another neighbour said last night: "Pickton and his brother were strange. They would stage cockfights at all hours and they would have their dump-trucks going at two in the morning.
"Most farmers get up at six or seven in the morning and go to work. "But these two would start hanging out at seven or eight in the evening. And
both of them don’t wash — you can tell."
On Wednesday 10th April 2002, the farm was swarming with forensic teams in white overalls, masks,
gloves and boots. They were digging in huge mounds of soil dotted across his land. All the livestock at the farm has been taken away by officials.
One local said: “If the victims were fed to pigs over the years, there is a chance those pigs ended up as meat for human consumption. It is a horrifying thought — but one we have to consider.”
As the search continued, a sign on the locked main gate read: “This property is protected by pitbulls with Aids.”
Family and friends of the missing women have festooned the fence around the plot with flowers and cards. Many of the grieving relatives were in court on Tuesday when Pickton came up for a further remand in custody.
His sparse hair was matted and his hands were grimy as he stood expressionless in a prison room which was linked to the court by video.
Angry relatives of his supected victims last night demanded a public inquiry into why police did not act earlier when so many girls had been reported missing in the British Columbian city. Karen Joesbury — mother of murder victim Andrea — said: “I am having a hard time dealing with this. It never should have happened.”
Kathleen Hallmark, whose daughter Helen disappeared in 1997, said: “I don’t know if I’ll ever find out what happened to Helen.
“But what makes me so sick is that there were too many lives lost. “In 1998 and 1999, police officials just wouldn’t listen to us. “They told me Helen had probably gone to Florida and changed her identity. “There definitely needs to be an investigation into this whole sordid mess.
“Why did they feel that these women, our loved ones, were disposable?”
And Sandra Gagnon, whose sister Janet disappeared in 1997, said: “We just want answers. We want to get on with our lives and we don’t want it to drag on and drag on. It is frustrating.” - The Sun, London 11th April 2002.

A MAN SWAP BE A WOMAN
Sex-change RAF corporal
swaps his trousers for skirts

Taking off to start a new life ... skirt-wearing Michelle |
Fly guy ... Michelle the way she was as Michael |
The 39-year-old six-footer paid £30,000 (Kshs. 3.6 million) for the sex change, which included five operations and speech therapy to make her sound feminine.
AN RAF corporal who joined the force as a strapping teenage lad is leaving as a woman. Michelle Marshall — named Michael Sowry until a couple of years ago — has had a full sex swap. And instead of wearing trousers and jackets, she is now more comfy in skirts and blouses.
Michelle — who married and had a son as a young man but was always a secret cross-dresser — said last night: “I now have complete peace of mind as a woman.” The 39-year-old six-footer paid £30,000 for the sex change, which included five operations and speech therapy to make her sound feminine.
She is only the second transsexual in the Armed Forces. And six months ago she became the first to try to move up the ranks to become an RAF officer. Michelle went on a course at the force’s officer training college at Cranwell, Lincs.
When others there found out about her sex swap they nicknamed her GI Jane after the Demi Moore film. Michelle has just been told she has not made the grade, mainly because she found physical challenges such as yomping too gruelling.
So she has decided to leave the force in August, after 22 years of service, to become a teacher. Michelle followed in the dainty footsteps of RAF flight lieutenant Eric Cookson, 40.
The Sun told in 2000 how he became Caroline “Caz” Paige after changing sex. Caz is now on active helicopter flying duties. Michelle, who has shoulder-length auburn hair, said she felt “wrong” as a boy from the age of eight and began dressing as a girl at 13. Even so, as Michael Sowry she got hitched at 19 to an old school friend.
She said: "Sexual relations were completely normal and we had a son who is now a teenager. My wife had no idea about my cross-dressing and desire to be a woman. "I kept my women’s clothes in the loft.
"My wife never found out until I told her in 1999, two years after we divorced. She was relieved — she thought I’d been having affairs. "We split because we just grew apart and are on good terms."
As Michael, Michelle was promoted to corporal in 1988 and served as a jet armourer at more than a dozen bases. She began the sex change process in 1997, told her bosses what was happening in July 1999 and became Michelle three months later.
The corporal, still a bloke by law, said: “Female RAF members accepted me quicker than male members. They were keen to give me advice about make-up.” An RAF spokesman said: “Cpl Marshall and the RAF have broken new ground which underlines our commitment to equal opportunities.” - The Sun, London 2nd April 2002.

I've 117 pegs on my Ed
![]() I'm ache the peg ... Edward gets record, but it hurts |
CRAZY Edward McKenna is facing up to stardom as a record holder after sticking 117 clothes pegs to his head. |
The dad of three took up his painful hobby three years ago after seeing a
contestant on TV’s Guinness World Records show. Edward, 38, said: “I saw a guy
putting all these pegs on his face and just thought ‘I could do that’. I’ve been
doing it ever since.”
Since then Edward has gradually increased the number of pegs he clips on — and
reckons he has now beaten the world best of 116, held by Kevin Thackwell, from
Stoke-on-Trent.Edward, of Gorton, Manchester, said: “The first time I did 89,
then worked up to 104.
Now my best effort is 117. “I’ve sent a tape to Guinness and am willing to take
a supervised challenge.” He will be given five minutes to peg out — and must
abide by strict rules. The pegs can go on the face and neck, but not on the
eyelids or ears. All pegs must stay in position for five seconds and contestants
sign a waiver saying they know the risks.
Labourer Edward added: “It’s quite painful, but it impresses my kids. I’m known
as ‘Peg Man’ at their school.”
