Kenyan behind bomb that killed KDF soldiers in Somalia

Anwar Yogan Mwok

A Kenyan man was the suicide bomber who drove an explosives-laden truck into a Kenyan military camp in Kulbiyow, Somalia. Investigations by both the Kenya Defence Forces and other agencies show Anwar Yogan Mwok died in one of the vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) explosions at the camp on January 27, that also killed dozens of soldiers. He and fellow Kenyans Ramadhan Kungwa and Erick Ogada had joined Al Shabaab and were wanted by police for their involvement in terror activities. Yesterday, police revealed the other two were still at large within Somalia. "Mwok was in one of the lead vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices that targeted the KDF camp. He was killed by the heavy artillery fired by the KDF and died instantly," said an official aware of the probe. At least 21 KDF personnel are confirmed to have died in the attack. Kungwa and Achayo, who were among the Al Shabaab militants, suffered serious injuries and reliable sources indicate their Kenyan associates and family members are trying to sneak them into the country for medical care. Mwok was born in Siaya County in 1981. He was raised as a Christian but later converted to Islam. When he was younger, his family moved to Nairobi, where he played football with the Mathare United Soccer Club prior to his conversion to Islam and recruitment into violent extremism. He lived in Umoja estate with his family until 2013, when he left for Somalia to join Al Shabaab. Once in Somalia, he joined Jaysh Ayman, a group of largely Kenyan Al Shabaab fighters who plan and execute attacks against Kenyans. Mwok owned a significant number of properties in Umoja estate to finance his activities. - The Standard

France avalanche: Four killed at Tignes ski resort

France, Monday 13th February, 2017 - Two teenage boys are among four snowboarders killed in an avalanche at the ski resort of Tignes in France. The snowboarders, led by an instructor, died when the wall of snow swept through an off-piste area just after 10:30 local time (09:30 GMT) on Monday. It had been feared more people had been caught up in the disaster. But Albertville Deputy Prefect Nicolas Martrenchard later told Agence France-Presse that "the definitive death toll is four victims". "We lament the four deceased... It was an avalanche on a huge scale," he had earlier told a press conference.

Five more suspected drug barons arrested, Sh18m cash, Sh170m heroin found

Anti-narcotics detectives have arrested five more most wanted drug barons in Mombasa amid a government operation to eliminate them. Coast regional coordinator Nelson Marwa said the five were arrested at an apartment in Bamburi on Monday. Marwa told journalists that they also seized 15 kgs of heroin worth Sh170 million and Sh18 million believed to be proceeds from the sale of drugs. "We suspect the money was to be used to bribe law enforcers and smuggle more narcotics. This a major breakthrough in the war on drugs," he said. Four vehicles believed to have been used to smuggle the drugs were also found in the operation. The suspects were arraigned and detained for five days to enable police complete investigations. The crackdown was carried out by detectives who were behind the arrest and extradition of four suspected drug traffickers to the US. Baktash (40) and Ibrahim Akasha (28) and foreigners Vijay Goswami (Indian) and Hussein Shabakash (Pakistani) were flown to New York on January 31. They were arrested in Mombasa for conspiracy to smuggle heroin and methamphetamine into the United States. Kenya authorities have arrested more than eight drug barons in renewed efforts against drug dealing, especially at the Coast. They have been working with agencies including the United States Drugs Enforcement Administration. US authorities say Baktash is the leader of an organised crime family in Kenya, responsible for the production and distribution of narcotics in the country and across Africa. Last week, seven suspected drug barons including two South African and two Seychellois were nabbed in the operation. The four were identified as Dominguez and Nedy Micock (Seychelles) and Barend Nolte and Marc Faivelewitz (SA). It was said that they were the accomplices of the Akashas and were planning to smuggle a huge consignment of Mandrax from India to Kenya . Mombasa county commander Peterson Maelo said the suspects were wanted fugitives who were on the run. They were deported to their home countries on Sunday for possible prosecution. - The Start

Ernst & Young Removes Degree Classification From

Entry Criteria As There’s ‘No Evidence’ University Equals Success

Ernst & Young, one of the UK’s biggest graduate recruiters, has announced it will be removing the degree classification from its entry criteria, saying there is “no evidence” success at university correlates with achievement in later life. In an unprecendented move, the accountancy firm is scrapping its policy of requiring a 2:1 and the equivalent of three B grades at A-level in order to open opportunities for talented individuals “regardless of their background”.

KKK 'imperial wizard' found dead on a Missouri riverbank

The body of a Ku Klux Klan leader who had been missing for several days was found on a Missouri riverbank, according to police. Frank Ancona, who was a 51-year-old self-proclaimed imperial wizard of a KKK chapter near St. Louis, according to a website promoting the group, was found dead by a family who had gone to the Big River in Missouri to go fishing, according to Daily Journal, a local newspaper. Ancona was last seen heading for work on Wednesday morning by his wife, the Daily Journalreported. The Washington County Sheriff's Office referred ABC News to a statement about Ancona's death on their Facebook page. "On Friday the Washington County Sheriff's Office learned of the disappearance of Frank Ancona who was missing from Leadwood Missouri. During this time, we were also informed Mr. Ancona's vehicle had been located by a United States Federal Forest Service employee on Federal Forest Service Property," the statement, which is attributed to Sheriff Zach Jacobsen, begins. Jacobsen said that his office reached out to Missouri State Highway Patrol for help with the case on Ancona's disappearance.

During the investigation that followed, he said, one subject was arrested on an unrelated warrant and two search warrants were executed in Washington County, Missouri. After the body was found, it was taken by the Washington County Corner's Office for an autopsy, where it was identified as Ancona, Jacobsen said. A cause of death has not been released at this time, Jacobsen said. "The Washington County Sheriff's Office would like to extend our sympathy to Mr. Ancona's family and friends. I would like to thank the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Franklin County Sheriff"s Office and the Saint Francois County Sheriff's Office for their assistance and professionalism during this tragic and senseless act of violence. I would also like to thank my staff for the professionalism and dedication they show day in and day out for our great community, and to the citizens of Missouri," the statement concludes. Ancona had conducted interviews with media, speaking on behalf of the Klu Klux Klan in the past. In 2014, he appeared on the MSNBC show "All In" with Chris Hayes, in which he defended fliers that the Klan distributed during the protests that took place in Ferguson, Missouri, that year. The fliers threatened "lethal force" against "terrorists masquerading as 'peaceful protesters.'"

Court sentences Doctors’ union officials to one month in jail

The Court has sentenced Doctors’ union officials to one month in jail after they failed to reach an agreement and call off medics strike as directed. The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) officials appeared in Milimani Law Courts earlier this morning. Judge Hellen Wasilwa had suspended their jail term and directed Central Organization of Trade Union (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli to lead negotiations to bring an end to the industrial action. The meeting which included KMPDU officials, Council of Governors, the Treasury, Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) and other Government organs hit a deadlock after the doctors refused another deal offered by the government arguing that it is not what they were bargaining for. - The Standard - CLICK HERE FOR VIDEO

Swiss back new citizenship rules in defeat for rightwing

Geneva, Switzerland, Feb 12 – Swiss voters on Sunday approved a measure to make it easier for third-generation immigrants to become citizens, crushing rightwing nationalists who had stoked fears about granting nationality to more Muslims. According to final official results, the “Yes” camp claimed 60 percent support and a victory in 19 of Switzerland’s 26 cantons, meeting the two criteria needed for a win. The government as well as most lawmakers and political parties supported the proposal. Under it, the grandchildren of immigrants will be able to skip several steps in the lengthy process of securing a Swiss passport, although approval of their citizenship will still not be automatic. The rightwing Swiss Peoples Party (SVP), the largest party in Switzerland’s parliament, fought against the measure by putting Islam and national identity at the centre of the debate. Reacting to the defeat, SVP lawmaker Jean-Luc Addor said his side was “alone against everyone in this campaign”. “The problem of Islam, I’m afraid, it will catch up with us in a few years,” he told RTS television. According to a migration department study, less than 25,000 people in the country of about eight million currently qualify as third-generation immigrants, a definition meaning they have at least one grandparent who was born in Switzerland or acquired residency. Nearly 60 percent of that group are Italians, followed by those with origins in the Balkans and Turkey. During the campaign, Addor warned that third-generation immigrants in Switzerland will increasingly be people “from sub-Saharan Africa, the Horn of Africa, Syria or Afghanistan.” – Poster controversy – The “No” camp faced heavy criticism over a widely-distributed poster showing a woman staring out from under a black niqab with a tagline urging voters to reject “uncontrolled citizenship”. The SVP was not officially responsible for the poster. It was commissioned by the Committee Against Facilitated Citizenship, which has several SVP members and was co-chaired by Addor. Lawmaker Lisa Mazzone, whose Green Party supported the reform, told RTS her side was “pleased it was able to prevail in a campaign where the opponents were completely hysterical”. Sophie Guignard of the Institute of Political Science at the University of Bern told AFP that mainstream politicians and journalists viewed the niqab poster as “a violent attack against Muslims”. But Addor defended it again on Sunday by saying its intent was to “affirm the identity of this country and the need to preserve it.” There are currently an estimated 350,000 Muslims in Switzerland.

President Kenyatta dines at choma joint in Nakuru

It was another normal day at work for Mr Paul Maina and his wife Grace Mwangi until the president walked into their joint at Kikopey, on the busy Nakuru-Nairobi highway to eat nyama choma. Mr Maina had reported to work at 8 am armed with a selfie stick, anticipating a chance for a selfie moment with the president. Little did he know he would have him as a guest and even have a complete photo session. The couple operates Kahatia butchery, a nyama choma joint, at the famous Kikopey Nyama Choma stopover. This is where travellers stop over to enjoy a meal of the mouthwatering roasted meat. Among those that picked Kahatia butchery for their ‘nyam chom’ on Saturday was President Uhuru Kenyatta who was on a voter registration campaign in Nakuru County. The president had begun his day’s journey at Salgaa before proceeding to Mukinyai, Kibunja, Total, Mau Summit, Molo, Turi, Elburgon, Njoro and Nakuru Town where he addressed roadside rallies. At Kikopey, he had addressed a crowd that had milled around him, urging them to take their voter’s cards and to vote him in one last time, before announcing that he was stopping over for a nyama choma bite as well. “Haiya, acha niingie ndani nile nyama choma, (let me go in to eat nyama choma)” the president said before alighting from his vehicle and proceeding to the butchery. For the 15 years he has operated the business, Mr Maina has received and served many high profile guests, including Deputy President William Ruto who decided to layover while campaigning before the 2013 General Election. He has also served many members of Parliament, he told Nation. But he had never imagined that the president would be one of his guests, even though it was one of his silent prayers. “I had told myself I must serve him some day,” he said.
UHURU’S CHAIR
And even when it finally happened, it seemed like a dream. “It is just unbelievable. I feel like I have been born again, or waking up and finding millions at the gate,” he said. The president and his company were ushered into a small dining area where they were served roasted goat meat and ugali. The president also had a bottle of water while his company has a soda. They paid for their meal that lasted about 25 minutes. According to Mr Maina, a team from the presidential escort had made an advance inspection visit to the joint immediately his entourage had arrived at Kikopey before informing them that he would be coming in for a meal. “We thought it was a joke and just hanged around. But we could not believe it when he said he was stopping over.” “I even greeted the president,” his elated wife added. The president took photos with his entourage. Immediately after he left, a crowd thronged the joint and jostled to sit for turns to sit on the seat Mr Kenyatta ha sat on. The president then proceeded to Gilgil and Naivasha where he addressed locals. - Source link-nation.co.ke

US diplomat arrested in Nairobi for brandishing gun at civilian

A US diplomat was Sunday arrested after brandishing a gun at a civilian following an accident in Nairobi. The diplomat was driving a four-wheel drive car bearing US embassy registration numbers when he was involved in a non-injury accident along Lusaka Road. When the motorist involved in the accident tried to seek explanation from him, he allegedly brandished a gun before he drove off. The vehicle registration numbers 29CD701K was circulated in the police communication channel before he was stopped along University Way by traffic personnel.  “We are talking to a foreigner involved in a traffic incident and there are other claims against him but no injury was reported,” said Central OCPD Robinson Thuku. He was taken to the traffic office where he was grilled. His Ceska pistol was taken away for further analysis. Security officials from the KK security, which protects the embassy were at the station to help him get bail. His identity was not immediately revealed, but police confirmed he is a US diplomat. The diplomat’s vehicle was also detained at the Central Police station. A US embassy official said they were offering him consular assistance. “We are aware of a minor traffic accident involving an employee of the US embassy and we are cooperating fully with authorities. Contrary to some reports, at no time did the employee brandish or fire a weapon,” a statement from the public affairs office in US embassy in Nairobi said. There has been a surge on gun misuse in Nairobi lately, with several licensed gun holders being arrested and charged in court. - Sunday Standard

Jubilee calls for investigations into Raila Odinga and his relatives, details

- Raila Odinga and a number of his relatives were implicated in a financial scandal where they extorted a foreigner to give them millions of shillings
- The Jubilee Party now wants the Odinga relatives investigated for abuse of office and extortion

The Jubilee Party came out to vehemently deny any role in the woes between ODM leader Raila Odinga, his relatives and an international investor, Calvin Burges, as alleged by the opposition party. Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, February 12, Leader of Majority Aden Duale and the Jubilee Head of Secretariat Raphael Tuju demanded that Raila confirm or clarify his dealings with Burges. “Today, Honorable Raila Odinga has not spoken. We want to know the role of Raila and his relatives in this Dominion Farms scandal. He should call a press conference and clarify this matter the way he enjoys calling for pressers from his house and office and clear the air, "I challenge him to come and answer questions regarding this matter. Mr Calvin confirmed that Raila extorted money from Dominion Farms many times. Raila should either clarify or confirm if he has ever done what he is being accused of,” said Duale. - tuko.co.ke

Hundreds of immigrants arrested in 'routine' U.S. enforcement surge

(Reuters) - U.S. federal immigration agents arrested hundreds of undocumented immigrants in at least four states this week in what officials on Friday called routine enforcement actions. Reports of immigration sweeps this week sparked concern among immigration advocates and families, coming on the heels of President Donald Trump's executive order barring refugees and immigrants from seven majority-Muslim nations. That order is currently on hold. "The fear coursing through immigrant homes and the native-born Americans who love immigrants as friends and family is palpable," Ali Noorani, executive director of the National Immigration Forum, said in a statement. "Reports of raids in immigrant communities are a grave concern." The enforcement actions took place in Atlanta, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and surrounding areas, said David Marin, director of enforcement and removal for the Los Angeles field office of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Only five of 161 people arrested in Southern California would not have been enforcement priorities under the Obama administration, he said. The agency did not release a total number of detainees. The Atlanta office, which covers three states, arrested 200 people, Bryan Cox, a spokesman for the office, said. The 161 arrests in the Los Angeles area were made in a region that included seven highly populated counties, Marin said.

Marin called the five-day operation an "enforcement surge." In a conference call with reporters, he said that such actions were routine, pointing to one last summer in Los Angeles under former President Barack Obama. "The rash of these recent reports about ICE checkpoints and random sweeps, that’s all false and that’s dangerous and irresponsible," Marin said. "Reports like that create a panic.” He said that of the people arrested in Southern California, only 10 did not have criminal records. Of those, five had prior deportation orders. Michael Kagan, a professor of immigration law at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas, said immigration advocates are concerned that the arrests could signal the beginning of more aggressive enforcement and increased deportations under Trump. "It sounds as if the majority are people who would have been priorities under Obama as well," Kagan said in a telephone interview. "But the others may indicate the first edge of a new wave of arrests and deportations." Trump recently broadened the categories of people who could be targeted for immigration enforcement to anyone who had been charged with a crime, removing an Obama-era exception for people convicted of traffic misdemeanors, Kagan said.

Six points and £200 fine for drivers caught using

mobile phone behind the wheel in UK

Drivers caught using their mobile phones behind the wheel will be slapped with a £200 fine and given six points on their licence. The new legislation comes into force on March 1, 2017. Motorists who get six points in the first two years after passing their test will automatically lose their licence. This week, North Wales Police are launching an awareness campaign to remind drivers to keep their eyes on the road and inform them of the new law. The initiative will run from today until January 29 and will see officers continue to tackle drivers whoendanger their own lives and the lives of other road users. Inspector Dave Cust from the Roads Policing Unit said: “Driving whilst using a mobile phone is a serious concern for police, and a concern that so many drivers continue and choose to risk becoming involved in a serious or fatal road traffic collision. “Even the most experienced or competent of drivers can easily be distracted and a slight lapse in concentration can have devastating consequences. “Along with drink driving, speeding, not wearing a seatbelt and driving carelessly, using a mobile phone behind the wheel, whether it be texting, using an app, or making a phone call is classed as one of the ‘Fatal 5’ - the five most common causes of fatal road traffic collisions.” He added: “With the increased use of smart phones we are also seeing drivers being distracted whilst accessing their apps, reading their emails or accessing the internet. Drivers need to be aware that these actions carry the same danger and the same penalty.” “Last autumn we launched our #OpSnap campaign, an initiative which allows video submissions and photographic evidence to be sent to us from people who have witnessed driving offences. Over recent months we have received footage capturing motoring offences including careless and dangerous driving, people on mobile telephones and people being distracted whilst using their smart devices behind the wheel.

Kenyan girl detained at Chicago airport for hours, denied US entry over Trump ban

A Kenyan girl was denied entry into the United States a day after courts barred President Donald Trump from deporting immigrants. Eddah Chepkoton, 25, was held at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport for many hours after getting off a United Airlines flight on February 4. She had been given a five-year multiple entry visa by the US embassy in Nairobi on January 20. Eddah, a Kabianga university nursing graduate, narrated her harrowing experience to the Star from the airport, after an immigration officer singled her out of thousands of passengers who were on transit. "We landed at around 9.30 am but when I was clearing with customs an immigration officer called me aside and started questioning me," she said. Chicago is one of the areas where anti-travel ban protests have simmered for days. While checking Eddah's passport and visa, the officer asked what her real mission to the US was. "I was so confused and terrified. It was my first trip out of Kenya," she said. The officer then started checking her luggage and documents. He asked her why she was carrying her academic papers and if she did not plan to return to Kenya. "I told him I always travel with my papers and that I had a return ticket," she said. But she was told to go and wait outside while her issue was discussed. The officer called Eddah back after four hours and asked her to give him her cell phone. "He asked for the password which I gave to him," she said, adding she was then asked to leave the office.

Eddah was so terrified by that time and passengers in her connecting flight to Baytown were already boarding. "I went back to ask why my case was taking long because my flight was leaving. It was at that juncture that the officer, who was with a woman in uniform, told me he had two questions for me," she said. She was asked to choose between being banned from the US for five years and having her visa withdrawn. Even more terrified by this turn of events, Eddah requested the officers to let her call her cousin. They refused. Caught between a hard rock and a hard place, she chose the cancellation of her multiple entry visa. Her visa now bears a United States Homeland Security stamp withdrawing it. Eddah was bundled into a return flight to Nairobi at around 6pm, more than eight hours after setting foot in the US. "I was really looking forward to my one-month stay in the US. We had spent a lot of money on air tickets...it is so sad that after all the vetting at the embassy in Nairobi I was humiliated this much." Eddah had paid $1,390 to Lufthansa airline for her return ticket. She connected to her flight in Frankfurt on February 3. Upon returning to Kenya, Eddah called the US embassy and was told to send her denial of entry letter. The Star had not obtained a comment from the embassy by press time. Trump halted the entire US refugee programme in an executive order signed last Friday and instituted a 90-day travel ban for nationals from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen. But a US judge issued a stay temporarily halting the deportation of visa holders or refugees under the executive order. The judge's stay prevents those "caught up" in the aftermath from being deported. The court decision came as thousands protested at airports in several US states over Trump's clampdown on immigration. The American Civil Liberties Union, which filed the suit, estimated that between 100 and 200 people were being detained at airports or in transit. - The Star

This woman visited every country on Earth in record time

(CNN)Her eyes teared up as a North Korean soldier gripped her hand in the hardest handshake she'd ever felt. "We're going to destroy you, America," he said. Over the past year and a half, American traveler Cassie De Pecol has visited every country in the world, and the greetings she received weren't always gracious. She had set out to promote peace in her own small way, by meeting people from every country in the world -- and she did so at a record pace. Traveling to all the world's 196 sovereign nations in 18 months and 26 days, De Pecol made the trip in less than half the time it took the previous Guinness World Record holder. She recalled telling the North Korean guard about her mission: She was there to show that, even if their governments couldn't be friends, the two of them didn't have to be enemies. "I just like to show that we can be friends and we can kind of coexist," De Pecol said.Cassie De Pecol in North Korea with her tour guide. She came to the country on a three-day organized tour with a Chinese tour group based out of Beijing. De Pecol, who majored in environmental studies in college, said she felt she couldn't travel the world without having a larger purpose. She embarked on her world tour in July 2015, promoting sustainable tourism everywhere she went as an ambassador for the International Institute of Peace Through Tourism. The nonprofit was founded in 1986, the United Nation's "Year of Peace," to promote cultural understanding after terrorist incidents sparked tensions between Eastern and Western countries. Over the course of her trip, she met with mayors and ministers of tourism, presenting them with the institute's "Declaration of Peace." SKAL International, an association of tourism professionals with chapters all over the world, considered her a peace ambassador and helped De Pecol arrange meetings with dignitaries in more than 50 countries. The 27-year-old spoke before more than 16,000 students about the ways to offset your carbon footprint when you travel.

US Immigration raids traffic stops looking for undocumented immigrants
Federal agents conduct sweeping immigration enforcement raids in at least 6 states

Sources says that at least 6 Kenyans are among those who has been caught

U.S. immigration authorities launched a series of raids, traffic stops and checkpoints in at least half a dozen states across the country on Thursday and Friday, sweeping up an unknown number of undocumented immigrants, immigration lawyers and advocates said. The raids, which appeared to target scores of undocumented immigrants, including those without criminal records, mark the first largescale episode of immigration enforcement inside the United States since President Trump’s Jan. 26 order to crack down on the estimated 11 million immigrants living here illegally. It also appeared to signal a departure from the Obama administration’s prioritized immigration enforcement against criminals. Trump has pledged to deport up to 3 million undocumented immigrants with criminal records. Word of the raids quickly circulated among immigrants, activists and on social media, creating such widespread panic in immigrant communities that a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said the department had decided to take the unprecedented step of confirming some details of the raids while the raids were ongoing. Gillian Christensen, a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), confirmed that ICE agents this week had raided homes and workplaces in Atlanta, the Los Angeles area and two other cities that she declined to identify, as part of “routine” immigration enforcement actions. ICE does not use the term raids.

But immigration activists said Friday that they had documented ICE raids of unusual intensity in the last 48 hours in Vista, Pomona and Compton, Calif.; Austin, Dallas, and Pflugerville, Texas; Alexandria and Annandale, Va.; Charlotte and Burlington, N.C.; Plant City, Fla.; the Hudson Valley region of New York; and Wichita, Kan. There were also reports of ICE checkpoints, targeting immigrants for random ID checks, in North Carolina and in Austin. The Trump administration is facing a series of legal challenges to his recent executive orders to crack down on undocumented immigrants and cities that appear resistant to his immigration policies. The raids also come on the heels of a Thursday night decision by the Ninth Circuit Appeals Court to keep a hold on Trump’s travel and immigration ban of refugees and the citizens of seven majority Muslim countries. Some activists in Los Angeles and Austin suggested that the raids might be retaliation for those cities’ so-called “sanctuary city” policies. Federal immigration officials declined Friday to say how many people had been detained in the recent raids. A DHS official confirmed that while immigration agents were targeting criminals, they were also sweeping up non-criminals in the vicinity who were found to be lacking documentation. “Big cities tend to have a lot of illegal immigrants,” said one immigration official who was not authorized to speak publicly because of the sensitive nature of the operation. “They’re going to a target-rich environment.”

Meanwhile, immigration advocacy and legal aid groups said ICE had declined to give them any information about how many people had been taken into custody. Advocates from United We Dream, the Center for Community Change and Make the Road said on a Friday conference call with reporters that they believed hundreds to have been detained, including undocumented immigrants who had no prior criminal record. They said some had been deported immediately. “We cannot understate the level of panic and terror that is running through many immigrant communities,” said Walter Barrientos of Make the Road in New York City. ICE agents had raided homes, and were “not just detaining individuals they are looking for ... but in fact, taking anyone else in the community, or in these homes who does not have immigration status at the moment, or who is not able to prove citizenship,” Barrientos said. In some cities, activists said that ICE had set up roadside or neighborhood checkpoints, where ICE agents, often in unmarked cars, appeared to be asking people at random for proof of citizenship or identification. “We’re trying to make sure that families who have been impacted are getting legal services as quickly as possible. We’re trying to do some legal triage,” said Bob Libal, the executive director of Grassroots Leadership, which provides assistance and advocacy work to immigrants in Austin. “It’s chaotic,” he said. The organization’s hotline, he said, had been overwhelmed with calls. Federal immigration officials, as well as activists, said that the majority of those detained were adult men. - www.washingtonpost.com

WORD OF TODAY

Proverbs 18:24

Who are your true friends?
We read in Proverbs 18:24 "One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother." Who are your true friends? Stop and think about that for a moment. How many of the people you consider friends, truly care about you? How many encourage you in your visions and dreams, and are there for you when you hit a wall? If we’re honest, most of us would have to concede that a significant number of so-called friends and associates aren’t there for us in a pinch. In fact, many of the people we spend time with are time-wasters who drain our energy and trivialise our dreams. In the Old Testament David and Jonathan were willing to lay down their lives for each other. And Ruth told Naomi, ‘Wherever you go, I will go’ (Ruth 1:16 NKJV). Do you have friends like that? If not, spend more time cultivating relationships with those who genuinely care about you; who don’t feel threatened by your success and want to see you succeed. You don’t need to be cold or rude to the others. Maintain their friendship, but spend your serious time with friends who believe in you and want you to achieve your God-given potential. A Novelist once  said, ‘Call it a clan, call it a network, call it a tribe, call it a family. Whatever you call it, whoever you are, you need one.’ Here’s a fail-safe principle when it comes to cultivating great friendships: whatever you desire in your own life, you must first give to others. If you want true friends, you must become a true friend. If you want a harvest of blessing in your own life, plant seeds of blessing in the lives of others.

White House considers rewriting Trump’s immigration order

The White House is considering rewriting the executive order barring refugees and citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the country, according to officials, indicating the administration may try to restore some aspects of the now-frozen travel ban or replace it with other face-saving measures. The deliberations come after a panel with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit declined Thursday to immediately reinstate President Trump’s controversial directive. Officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal discussions, said the White House and Justice Department are also mulling whether to ask the full 9th Circuit or the Supreme Court to intervene. Government lawyers could alternatively wage a legal battle in the lower courts to address more squarely whether Trump’s directive violates the constitution.

Cocaine with a street value of £50m (KShs. 6.5 billion)

has washed up on beaches in Norfolk, UK

About 360kg (793lbs) of the drug was found on Hopton beach, near Great Yarmouth and a beach near Caister, the National Crime Agency (NCA) said. A member of the public contacted Norfolk Police having discovered a number of holdalls containing packages of cocaine on Hopton Beach. The agency said the find would be a "major blow to the organised criminals involved." Matthew Rivers, from the NCA's border investigation team, said: "We are now working with Border Force, the Coastguard Agency and Norfolk Police to try and establish how the bags ended up where they did, however it is extremely unlikely that this was their intended destination. "This is obviously a substantial seizure of class A drugs and its loss will represent a major blow to the organised criminals involved." Supt Dave Buckley, from Norfolk Constabulary, said: "While we believe we have recovered all the packages, should any member of the public find one they are urged to contact [the force] immediately. "We will have extra officers in the area to monitor the situation." - CLICK HERE FOR MORE

White House seeks to regroup after stinging legal defeat

WASHINGTON (AP) — Seeking to regroup after a stinging legal defeat, President Donald Trump said Friday he is considering signing a "brand new order" after his refugee and immigration travel ban was halted in court. Trump, speaking to reporters on Air Force One as he flew to Florida for the weekend, said he expected his administration to win the legal battle over his original directive. But he said the White House was also weighing other alternatives, including making changes to the order, which suspended the nation's refugee program and barred all entries from seven Muslim-majority countries. The president said a new executive order would likely change "very little" from the first.

Uhuru issues executive order on Nairobi Metro transport

President Kenyatta has signed an executive order creating Nairobi Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (NAMATA), which will be tasked with providing the metropolitan area with a world-class public transport system. The authority will cover Nairobi, Kiambu, Murang’a, Machakos and Kajiado counties. A dispatch from State House spokesman Manoah Esipisu on Friday said the authority would formulate an integrated public transport strategy based on the development of a sustainable urban mobility plan that will be the basis for the “orderly and structured development of the proposed metropolitan area mass-transit system”.

RAPID TRANSIT
It will incorporate both bus rapid-transit and commuter rail. Mr Esipisu said all stakeholders had been consulted. “The establishment rationale of the authority is based on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in August 2013 between the national government, through the Ministry of Transport, on one part; and the county governments of Nairobi City, Kiambu, Murang’a, Machakos and Kajiado on the other,” the statement read in part. He noted that although the affected counties had experienced rapid growth over the last three decades, there has not been commensurate focus on providing sufficient and sustainable transport options for the area’s visitors and residents.

KIDERO FAULTED
His sentiments come a day after President Kenyatta rapped Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero, accusing him of having failed the county residents. “It (county government) has achieved nothing and all they have been doing is demolishing small business premises and houses and chasing down boda boda operators instead of implementing policies to benefit city residents,” said the head of state. The new authority, which was created on Thursday, is an interim measure pending the enactment of a law that will establish a fully fledged authority with expanded powers and a broader mandate. It is estimated the traffic gridlock costs more than Sh50 million daily through lost working hours and wasted fuel. -nation.co.ke

Man missing from Canada for five years found wandering alone in Brazil

A man who disappeared from his home in Canada five years ago has been found in the Amazon jungle. Anton Pilipa had travelled more than 6,500 miles through at least 10 countries, and was living homeless in northern Brazil. He survived by eating leftovers from rubbish bins or scavenging fruit and berries. The 39-year-old former humanitarian worker – who suffers from suspected schizophrenia – was initially stopped by Brazilian highway police in November. Helenice Vidigal, the Brazilian-Canadian police officer that picked him up, was given scant information from Anton, so set about tracing his family via social media. She eventually got in touch with them in late December, and Anton’s shocked brother Stefan quickly got to work arranging his return home, organising a passport and flights. A Gofundme page was launched to raise money to bring Anton back to Canada. It describes him as ‘a long time anti-poverty activist and member of radical communities in Vancouver, Montreal, and Toronto’. The page raised more than $12,000 towards Anton’s return home. Man held at Gatwick Airport on suspicion of preparing terrorist act

A 44-year-old man from Hertfordshire has been arrested at Gatwick Airport on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts. Officers from the Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command stopped the man after he disembarked from a flight from Iraq on Thursday. A statement from the Metropolitan Police said: "As a result of enquiries during the stop a decision was made to arrest the man under section five of the Terrorism Act - suspicion of preparation of terrorist acts. "The man was arrested under PACE and taken to a central London policy station where he remains in custody." It comes after a 31-year-old man arrested on Thursday in Norfolk on suspicion of fundraising for the purposes of terrorism and encouraging support for a banned terror group was bailed. Scotland Yard said that arrest was related to suspected activities overseas. Two properties in east Norfolk and one in north London have also been searched.

A guy who 'found £11,000 worth of cocaine in his Nesquik' is suing the supermarket

A shopper is suing a supermarket for “moral damage” after finding 13,000 euros (£11,000) of cocaine in his Nesquik. The man, from Zaragoza, Spain, first became curious about his chocolate milkshake powder after getting home and realising the tub was already open. It was then that he discovered the 250g packet of cocaine and phoned the police. Spain’s National Police have opened an investigation, according to the i newspaper, and tested the substance to confirm it was cocaine. The man at the centre of the story has chosen to remain anonymous for obvious reasons but, after the local news story went viral in Spain, he announced plans to sue the supermarket where he bought the Nesquik – partly because of the attention the story had received and partly because of fear of retaliation by drug traffickers. It’s not unusual for drugs to be smuggled into Spain using food but we reckon following this news story people will definitely be paying attention the next time they spot a Nesquik tub with its lid slightly ajar.

RECORD PROPERTY SALES IN THE DIASPORA

"Since I met Heri Homes, things are no longer the same. They are changing lives in the Community" - Mr. Seed

Meet Mary Njonjo the Marketing Manager of Heri Homes, Nairobi, Kenya who has a record sales of property in the Diaspora. From 6th October 2016 she has sold more than 100 houses to Kenyans in the diaspora. That is a record sale because nobody has ever achieved this. What is behind Heri Homes success story? I have just returned from Kenya a few days ago and after touring all of their projects I came up with one conclusion. Their success lies with three things: Honesty, Completing their projects on time and their sales model of OFF PLAN where you buy their property before they start building, you make a deposit of 20 per cent and they give a sales agreement and you will be topping the balance within the construction time of 18 months. If at the end of the 18 months you are unable to complete their payment you then go to the bank for the balance and if you a member of their Sacco, you can go for the balance in their Sacco. During my visit in Kenya last week I took them to Co-operative Bank where the bank has agreed to finance those in the diaspora with 10 per cent three months prior to project completion. Heri Homes have projects going, coming up soon and many projected projects. If you dont have enough money to raise the deposit you can start saving with their Sacco or through Heri Homes and when you save enough, you can then catch up with the next off plan project. Soon they are coming back to the UK and also going to the USA in middle of the year before heading to Australia at the of this year. The company also hosted a dinner for me in a Westland restaurant during my visit. This is a company which is making a big impact with Kenya in the Diaspora. Here are some of their projects you can buy from Heri Homes. They have projects in Daystar University Hostels 1 and 2, Kikuyu Road 1 and 2 and Kitsuru 1 and 2. You can contact them either to buy to fix you in their record so that when they visit the diaspora next time, they will notify you.

A SCHEME TO END THE UNACCOMPANIED MIGRANT CHILDREN IN TO THE UK

Church leaders, MPs and peers have condemned the decision to end the "Dubs amendment" scheme to let unaccompanied migrant children in to the UK. The Archbishop of Canterbury said he was "shocked", while Labour's Yvette Cooper described it as "shameful". Ministers said 350 children would have arrived under the scheme by the time it ended in March but that there were fears it encouraged people traffickers. Theresa May says what the UK is doing to help refugees is "absolutely right". The prime minister pointed to separate schemes that will resettle 20,000 Syrian refugees from camps in the region as well as reuniting migrant children with families already in the UK. The Dubs amendment, designed by the Labour peer and former child refugee Lord Dubs, aimed to help some of the estimated 90,000 unaccompanied migrant children across Europe. It was accepted by then Prime Minister David Cameron last year after he was faced with a rebellion in the House of Lords. While there was no target number specified in law, Lord Dubs and his supporters had suggested the UK could help 3,000 of the most vulnerable. On Wednesday, ministers announced that 200 children had been brought in under the scheme and that it would close after another 150 were settled in the UK.

Home Secretary Amber Rudd defended the decision, which she said had been made after France raised concerns it could be encouraging more children to make the perilous journey to Europe. Speaking in the Commons, she said: "I am clear that when working with my French counterparts they do not want us to indefinitely continue to accept children under the Dubs amendment because they specify, and I agree with them, that it acts as a draw. "It acts as a pull. It encourages the people traffickers." She said the government remained committed to accepting 3,000 child refugees from crisis-hit regions such as Syria. Jump media playerMedia player helpOut of media player. Press enter to return or tab to continue. The move has prompted fierce criticism from MPs, including those from the Tory party, as well as the Archbishop of Canterbury. Shadow home secretary Diane Abbott attacked Ms Rudd, asking: "How does she live with herself?" Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron attacked the government for a "betrayal of these vulnerable children and a betrayal of British values", while Green Party co-leader Jonathan Bartley said the decision was "an absolute disgrace".

Tory MP David Burrowes said it looks like the government has "cut and run from child refugees" while Conservative MP Heidi Allen MP said she would support a judicial review on the decision. The Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby said the UK had a "great history of welcoming those in need" and hoped the government would reconsider its decision. The Bishop of Croydon, the Rt Revd Jonathan Clark, who has been involved with efforts to welcome child migrants, said the government was "in effect helping the trafficking industry". While Lord Dubs said: "I believe in arbitrarily closing down the scheme, without any good reason for doing so, the government is in breach of its own commitments." The law was designed by former child refugee Lord Dubs However, the prime minister has defended the government's approach to refugees by pointing to various other schemes adopted to bring them into the UK. She said: "We have been seeing quite a number of children and families being resettled here in the United Kingdom and I think what we are doing in terms of refugees is absolutely right." The total number of children to accept under the Dubs amendment was reached after consultation with local authorities - with councils indicating they could provide care to no more than 350 unaccompanied child migrants. David Simmonds, chairman of the Local Government Association's asylum, refugee and migration task group, said councils had "demonstrated tremendous leadership at a local, regional and national level in resettling the children from the Calais camp." A legal challenge on how the government has handled the legal commitment will go ahead on Friday.

MPs in London approve triggering of Article 55 to start Brexit
The bill now goes to the Lords before the PM invokes Article 50, which she has promised to do by the end of March.

MPs have approved the bill giving Theresa May permission to trigger Brexit – on another night of Labour resignations.
At its third reading, the final Commons stage, the European Union (Notification of Withdrawal) Bill passed by 494 votes to 122 - a majority of 372. It must now go to the House of Lords before the Prime Minister can invoke Article 50, which she has promised to do by the end of March. Brexit Secretary David Davis said: "We've seen a historic vote tonight - a big majority for getting on with negotiating our exit from the EU and a strong, new partnership with its member states." A total of 52 Labour MPs voted against triggering Article 50, defying the orders of their leader Jeremy Corbyn - more than the 47 who did the same at last week's second reading. Former chancellor Ken Clarke was again the only Conservative to vote against the bill. Conservative MP Iain Duncan Smith said he was "delighted" after the vote, adding: "Nothing is easy, nothing is written in stone but tonight we've started the process of delivering on what was essentially the referendum result on 23 June last year."

He added: "There are a lot of Labour MPs that have voted tonight with the Government to trigger Article 50 in the third reading so, to my mind, there is a sense about this that we need to get on with it." Diane Abbott, Labour MP and shadow home secretary, said she had voted in favour of the bill but told Sky News that "a Tory Brexit is going to be quite disastrous". When asked if her vote had therefore helped give the Tory party a blank cheque, she replied: "I don't believe we've given them a blank cheque, we're going to be holding them to account." When asked how the Labour Party would do this, she answered: "We're going to be holding them to account on the floor of the House." After the vote, Mr Corbyn tweeted: "Real fight starts now. Over next two years Labour will use every opportunity to ensure Brexit protects jobs, living standards and the economy." Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon replied: "How? You've just handed the Tories a blank cheque. You didn't win a single concession but still voted for the bill. Pathetic."

Former Somali PM Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo elected president

Former Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, who holds joint American citizenship, was elected president on Wednesday, vowing to crack down on corruption and Al-Shabaab militants. The 55-year-old former premier, whose hails from the Darod clan and who goes by the nickname "Farmajo", won after incumbent president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud admitted defeat in a second round of voting by lawmakers. "This is the beginning of unity for the Somali nation, the beginning of the fight against Shabaab and corruption ..." a triumphant Farmajo said after being declared the winner in a long, drawn-out election process in the conflict-wracked nation. Civilians took to the streets and soldiers fired celebratory gunfire in the capital Mogadishu which had been near-deserted for two days with roads and schools closed and residents urged to stay indoors for fear of a strike on the capital by Shabaab militants. And Somali refugees in Dadaab, the world's biggest refugee camp in eastern Kenya, also erupted with joy and sang the national anthem when hearing Farmajo had won, according to an AFP correspondent.

"Time has come for us Somalis. I thank God. This is the man we need, he cares for us, he cares for the poor men and women," said 60-year-old Anfi Kassim who has lived in the camp since 1992. After six hours and two rounds of voting, a crowded field of 21 presidential candidates was whittled down to the two veteran politicians Farmajo failed to win the required two thirds majority, but had 184 votes to Mohamud's 97, prompting the incumbent to drop out to avoid a third round. The father of four served as prime minister for only eight months between 2010 and 2011 and was ousted in a deal to form a new government and postpone elections that year. However several of his moves, such as implementing regular payments of soldiers, were well received and many supporters took to the streets of Mogadishu to protest his removal. Farmajo was born in the capital to a family from the southern Gedo region, and moved to the United States where he studied history and political science at the University of Buffalo. He went on to work in the foreign ministry and as a diplomat in Washington before the collapse of Siad Barre's military regime in 1991 which led to civil war and decades of anarchy in Somalia. - The Standard

Woman discovers husband is her brother after finding birth parents

A woman discovered her husband was in fact her brother after tracking down her birth parents. The woman made the shock discovery after going on a radio program that specializes in tracking down lost relatives. A woman discovered her husband was in fact her brother after tracking down her birth parents.  She discovered the love of her life to whom she was married for seven years was in fact a brother she never knew she had. The couple have a child together. Adriana and her husband Leandro only knew they’d both been abandoned by their birth mothers at a very young age. Adriana, 39, hadn’t seen her mother since she was one-year-old while her husband Leandro was told when he was eight that the woman he thought was his mother was, in fact, his stepmother. The couple met a decade ago after Adriana moved back to her hometown when he her marriage failed. Last month, Adriana contacted Brazil’s Radio Globo’s 'The Time Is Now,' the show that tracked down her mother. On air, Adriana’s mother revealed she’d also had a son whom she’d left — Leandro. Adriana reportedly told Radio Globo that she and Leandro planned to stay together. ‘Only death is going to separate us,’ she said. ‘All this happened because God wanted it to happen.’

*Seven (7) Things to Remember as We Go to the Polls*

*1.* Everyone has a reason why they support their candidate and your reason isn't more important than theirs. Respect everyone's opinion.

*2.* Look at the big picture. Five years is a short time. Dont get so emotional.

*3.* Be careful about social media. Treat news on social media with care before, during and after the elections and be careful what you share.

*4.* Learn to be political not partisan. Vote your conscience even if your candidate doesn't win. Stand for a principle, don't vote for or against personalities. Put Kenya first.

*5.* Face the truth. The party in power can never replace hard work and determination; you can be poor with your party in power, if you have the wrong mindset.

*6.* Prepare yourself for the results. Condition your mind, as it could go either way.

*7.* Kenya is bigger than any political party or a 5 year government. I would rather live for 5 years under a government I hate, than struggle in a civil war for decades.

There is more to life than an election.

I stand for peace. Let us stand united, irrespective of our political differences, to better our country.

No voting as IEBC cancelled diaspora registration of voters outside Africa
More Kenyans register to vote in Uhuru’s turf than in Cord areas

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s political bedrocks continue to dominate in voter registration and may give him a head start against a united opposition as the exercise enters the homestretch. The details emerged yesterday as IEBC cancelled diaspora registration of voters outside Africa, essentially locking out hundreds of thousands from the August 8 polls. IEBC statistics released yesterday indicate Central Kenya and the Rift Valley – Uhuru’s political turfs continue to lead for the third consecutive week If this advantage and momentum are sustained, Uhuru, who is under siege from a united opposition, could again achieve the “tyranny of numbers”. In total 2,164,185 voters registered countrywide in the three weeks against the IEBC’s three-week target of 4.2 million. According to new IEBC statistics, Central Kenya’s five counties — Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kiambu, Kirinyaga and Murang’a — have registered a record 318,457 voters, 62.2 per cent of the IEBC target. Rift Valley, considered DP William Ruto’s bastion, registered 497,313 voters. This translates to 58.7 per cent. Coming third is Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s Eastern backyard. The region has registered 348,977 new voters, translating into 52.1 per cent of the targeted voters. However, the Eastern figure includes some perceived Jubilee strongholds such as Tharaka Nithi and Meru that have registered 28,066 and 98,850 voters, respectively. - The Star

‘Death has no power over us’ – Pastor offers rat poison for ‘nourishment, healing’

Pastor Light Monyeki “demonstrates power of faith by causing congregants to drink Rattex”.

On right Pastor Light Monyeki adds Rattex to the drinking water.

Pastor Light Monyeki has apparently taken a lead from nyaope smokers and been mixing Rattex with water and offering it to his congregants claiming it is for “nourishment and healing”. On Sunday‚ in photos posted on Grace Living Hope Ministries’ Facebook page‚ Monyeki “demonstrates power of faith by causing congregants to drink Rattex”. This‚ the post added‚ would allow the churchgoers to use the “deadly poison to show forth their faith”. It said that he told the faithful: “If nyaope boys can smoke Rattex for more than eight years‚ who are we? Death has no power over us.” Monyeki held the plastic bottle aloft and then declared “life from above upon the water mixed with Rattex; and spoke nourishment unto bodies and healing unto the sick”. After he was the first to partake‚ “a multitude of congregants voluntarily ran to the front to have a drink of the deadly poison”. Nyaope is a highly addictive drug made from a range of ingredients from low-grade heroin‚ dagga‚ rat poison and detergents containing chlorine and ammonia. Attempts to obtain comment from Grace Living Hope Ministries were unsuccessful at the time of publication. In November last year, photographs of Doom-spraying at a service and prayer meeting were shared on aFacebook account allegedly belonging to prophet Lethebo Rabalago of Polokwane. In a number of posts‚ Mount Zion General Assembly testified of those who had received healing from Rabalago’s method of dousing worshippers in Doom. The pastor was later ordered to desist from the practice. In November 2014, a python and a dead chameleon were found in two pastors’ bags in Mwakaleli village, Taita Taveta county. Residents nearly lynched the two men of God, accusing them of conning them of their money and property in the name of performing miracles and exorcising demons. -the-star.co.ke

Photos of the wall Kenya is building along its border with Somalia

– Following al-Shabaab attacks, Kenya vowed to build a wall along its border with Somalia
– Photos have now emerged of the alleged wall Kenya is building
– The wall will stretch 700 kilometres and unlike said before, the wall is made of barbed wire and an electric fencing

Following a spate of al-Shabaab attacks in the country, the Jubilee government vowed to build a massive wall along the border of Kenya and Somalia. The wall was meant to keep off al-Shabaab militants and their followers from infiltrating into the country to cause havoc. The government said the wall would be 700 km long covering the entire border. Al-Shabaab militants are based in Somalia and recently they attacked a KDF camp in Kulibiyow and killed at least nine KDF soldiers. Well, photos have now emerged believed to be of the wall that the government is building. The wall, contrary to what many believed it would be, is build with posts wires mesh and barbed wire. It is then sewn with electric wires running through it. Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet is also capturing touring and inspecting the construction. Kenya has been facing the al-Shabaab threat ever since it sent its soldiers into Somalia.

New vehicle tax rates in UK from 1 April 2017

From:
Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency
First published:
30 January 2017

The way vehicle tax is calculated will change for cars and some motor homes that are first registered with DVLA from 1 April 2017. The change won’t affect any vehicles registered before April, but drivers cancheck the vehicle tax rates to make sure they know what they need to pay.

The rates explained
Vehicle tax for the first year is based on CO2 emissions. After the first year, the amount of tax that needs to be paid depends on the type of vehicle. The rates are:
£140 a year for petrol or diesel vehicles
£130 a year for alternative fuel vehicles (hybrids, bioethanol and LPG)
£0 a year for vehicles with zero CO2 emissions
New vehicles with a list price of more than £40,000

If a vehicle has a list price (the published price before any discounts) of more than £40,000, the rate of tax is based on CO2 for the first year. After the first year, the rate depends on the type of vehicle (petrol, diesel, alternative fuel or zero emissions) and an additional rate of £310 a year for the next 5 years. After those 5 years, the vehicle will then be taxed at one of the standard rates (£140, £130, or £0, depending on vehicle type).

Benefit Changes in UK Timetable 2017

Please note that information about some of these changes may be limited at present and also subject to further change. Although some will happen quickly, others may be introduced gradually over several years.

During 2017

Tax Free Childcare
Tax Free Childcare is to be introduced as a replacement for employer supported childcare (childcare vouchers).

The government will contribute up to 20% of the first £10,000 of registered childcare costs per child, per year. This equates to a maximum of £2,000 per child, per year.

The scheme will be available to people who have an annual income under £150,000 and are not receiving help with childcare via tax credits. It is expected to reach more people than the current scheme. For further details see our Tax Free Childcare information sheet.

April 2017

Bereavement Support Payment
The current bereavement benefits (Bereavement Allowance, Bereavement Payment, Widowed Parent’s Allowance) will be replaced with the new Bereavement Support Payment (BSP). This will be introduced for new claims from April 2017.

Tax Credits and Universal Credit two child limit
In the summer budget 2015, the government proposed that support for children through Tax Credits and Universal Credit will be limited to two children from April 2017.

For Child Tax Credit, elements will not be included for a third (or more) child born on or after 6 April 2017 unless an exception applies. Elements will continue to be included for all children born before 6 April 2017.

For Universal Credit, elements will not be included for the third (or more) child who joins the family on or after 6 April 2017 unless an exception applies. Elements will continue to be included for all children who were part of the family before 6 April 2017. Families with more than two children cannot make a new claim for Universal Credit until November 2018, even if they are in a full digital service area. They will have to claim Child Tax Credit in the meantime.

Equivalent changes will be made to the Housing Benefit rules. See our Summer Budget 2015 page

Tax Credit Family Element removed
People starting a family after April 2017 will no longer be eligible for the Family Element in tax credits. The equivalent in Universal Credit, known as the First Child Element, will also not be available for new claims from April 2017.

ESA Work-Related Activity component abolished
From 1 April 2017, new ESA claimants who are placed in the Work-Related Activity Group will receive the same rate of payment as those claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance and the equivalent in Universal Credit. See our Summer Budget 2015 page.

Universal Credit Youth Obligation
From April 2017, 18-21 year olds who have been claiming Universal Credit for six months will have to either apply for training/ apprenticeships or attend a work placements, unless they are exempt (considered to be vulnerable).

Universal Credit Housing Costs Element removed for young people
It was proposed in the summer budget 2015 that unemployed claimants aged under 21 would not have a Housing Costs Element included in their Universal Credit from April 2017 unless an exception applies. See our Summer Budget 2015 page.

Change in Hardship Payments for mentally ill and homeless
The government has proposed that hardship payments (of 40% of the benefit amount) be automatically payable to jobseekers who are mentally ill or homeless when they are sanctioned. These claimants currently have to apply for hardship payments when they've been sanctioned and may be refused. The proposal means to add them to the group of vulnerable people who can receive hardship payments whilst under sanction without applying for them first (such as claimants with children or long-term health problems).

Universal Credit taper to be reduced from 65 per cent to 63 per cent
From April 2017 the taper rate that applies in Universal Credit will be reduced from 65 per cent to 63 per cent. This means that claimants will be able to keep 37p for every £1 earned in work above work allowances rather than 35p for every £1 earned. See our Autumn Statement 2016 page.

Autumn /End of 2017

Kenyans in Diaspora Restless Over

'Disenfranchisement' in Voter Listing Exercise

Nairobi — The Kenya Diaspora Alliance (KDA) has warned that they may seek legal recourse if the new team at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) fails to effectively implement the Supreme Court order on the progressive inclusion of their community in elections, starting with the upcoming August poll. The Alliance, in a statement issued by their Chairperson Dr. Shem Ochuodho, thereby called for a meeting between themselves and the IEBC, "outstanding issues prior to the commencement of the registration to resolve the current deadlock." Among the issues the group wants addressed is the requirement for Kenyans the diaspora to register using a passport -as affects those living within the East African Community -- which according to Ochuodho is, "unconstitutional and a violation of human rights." "Even in other parts of the world, there are Kenyans who no longer use Kenyan passports, but maintain Kenyan national IDs." "Additionally, the allocation of registration centers including the staff to be utilised remains a major concern to the diaspora. Indeed, the proposed inclusion in the 2017 elections of Southern Africa only to the previous EAC countries fall far short of the expectations of the progressive requirement in comparison to 2013 elections," he pointed out. They also insist that there should be at least two registration centres per region of the world. "No tangible results have been achieved by the IEBC even following consultations with the Diaspora where there has been various promises from IEBC which have not borne fruit," the KDA chairperson lamented. He has made clear that they will resist, "through all lawful means, attempts to disenfranchise the Diaspora in the 2017 elections. We remain open to dialogue and will collaborate with the IEBC and all other concerned state and non-state agencies for the full realisation of Diaspora voting rights in 2017." - CapitalFM

WORD OF TODAY

John 8:36

Free to be yourself!
We read in John 8:36: "So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." We live in a world of peer pressure. Others set the standard and we wear it, drive it, quote it, or do it. In some cases that’s okay, but not when it comes to your life’s direction. Jesus said, ‘If the Son liberates you [makes you free men], then you are really and unquestionably free.’ That means you’re free from the pressures others try to put on you; free to be the person God called you to be; free to look to Him for answers instead of always looking to other people. The Bible says, ‘A man must be content to receive the gift which is given him from heaven’ (John 3:27 AMP Classic Edition). When you scratch the surface, you discover that deep down many of us struggle with insecurity. We’re competitive, always comparing ourselves to others. We’re envious of their possessions, abilities, and accomplishments. We find ourselves trying to keep up with certain people, or be just like them. And as a result we get frustrated because we’re operating outside of what God called us to be. In other words, we’re not being ourselves! Understand this: the Christian life is a race, and you must run on your own track. You’ll never enjoy the fullness of God’s blessing until you commit to being the person He created you to be. So look in the mirror today and announce, ‘I am what I am. I can’t be anything other than what God has called me to be. So I’m going to concentrate on being the best me I can be - and celebrate every moment of it.’

A handful of grapes twice a day could protect against Alzheimer's, study suggests

Eating a handful of grapes twice a day could slow the ravages of Alzheimer’s disease and boost memory, according to new research. Scientists found that eating grapes regularly can protect against decline in the areas of the brain affected by Alzheimer’s. The study of people with early memory decline also found that grapes boosted attention and memory performance, with significant change within six months of eating grapes twice a day. The pilot study, carried out by the University of California, Los Angeles, took 10 randomly-selected people – half men, half women – with an average age of 72 who were suffering early memory decline. Some were given whole grape powder equivalent to two-and-a-quarter cups (72g) of grapes per day while others were given a placebo powder.

Trump ramps up criticism of judge after travel ban setback

US President Donald Trump has attacked the judge who blocked his travel ban, saying Americans should blame the courts "if something happens". Mr Trump also said he had instructed border officials to check people entering America "very carefully". The ban, affecting people from seven mainly-Muslim countries, was blocked by the federal judge in Seattle on Friday. Saturday saw a federal appeals court reject the Trump administration's request to reinstate the ban. This means that Mr Trump's directive will remain suspended and visa holders from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen will be allowed to enter the US until the full case has been heard. The justice department and two US states challenging the ban, Washington and Minnesota, have been asked to present more arguments. In their latest submission to the appeals court, the two states says that lifting the suspension would "unleash chaos" and adversely affect their economies. They also lodged a statement by a host of national security experts - including former secretaries of state John Kerry and Madeleine Albright, and former CIA director Leon Panetta - which describes the travel ban as ineffective, dangerous and counterproductive.

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. If You Are An Immigrant (even a US Citizen),

Here Are 9 Things You Should Know

Are you a Naturalized U.S. Citizen, Lawful Permanent Resident, Visa Holder, or an Undocumented Immigrant? We recommend you take the following steps to protect yourself in our current version of America.

The last couple of weeks have reminded immigrants, even naturalized U.S. citizens, that they were not born in the United States. Our office has received countless phone calls, emails, and social media messages from people worrying about what their family’s future in the United States holds.

Most people want to know what they can do now to protect themselves from what promises to be a wave of anti-immigration activity by the federal government. Trump's Executive Order on Interior Enforcement has some provisions that should make most Americans shiver. We recommend the following actions for each of the following groups:

Naturalized U.S. citizens. In particular if you have a foreign accent, and you are traveling within 100 miles of any US Border (including the oceans), we strongly recommend carrying with you your US passport, or passport card, or a photocopy of your naturalization certificate. Because of the unpredictability of the current situation, we recommend keeping a photocopy of these documents in a safe place at your home, so that if necessary, someone will have access to it. You may very well need to prove your US Citizenship.

Permanent residents. Most people don't know this, but federal law requires that anyone who is NOT a US Citizen is required to carry with them at all times, evidence of their lawful status. You can see that for yourself at 8 USC 1304(e). So, carry your green card with you at all times! As noted for US citizens, you should also keep a photocopy of your green card in a safe place at home so that it can be accessed by someone in case you lose your card and you need it to identify yourself. Don't forget about that 100 mile constitution free zone! You should also renew your green card a full 6 months before expiration. Don't wait! If your green card has expired, renew it now. And, if it is not obvious at this point, you should start the process to naturalize immediately!

Lawfully present nonimmigrants (e.g. DACA, U Visa, EADs, Visitors, Students, H1Bs, etc.). Carry with you at all times your Employment Authorization Document, I-94 card, passport with entry stamp, or other proof of lawful presence (see the law above). Carry the original with you and keep a photocopy in a safe place at home, especially if you are within the 100 mile border area (more than 60% of the US population lives in this zone).

Undocumented immigrants in the US for more than two years. Keep with you at all times evidence that you have been present for at least two years. Why? Because President Trump just ordered DHS to examine activating a never used provision in immigration law that allows for the immediate removal from the US of anyone who cannot prove they have been here for two years (absent a claim for asylum). We do not know when ICE or CBP might activate the change, but we need to be prepared. Evidence that you might want with you are utility bills, receipts, Facebook posts, mail or any other documentation with your name going back two years, BUT, be very careful of using pay stubs if you have used false documents or information to get your job, as those are prosecutable offenses. Again you should also keep this information at home so that it is accessible to someone who can help you. Keep a photocopy at home. And, make sure you have a family plan in place to call for legal assistance if you fail to return home as usual.

Undocumented immigrants in the US for less than two years. The bad news is that you need a plan in place on what will happen to your belongings and your family if you do not return home from work, shopping, or school. Make sure your relatives know they can look for your name on the ICE detainee website. We assume that ICE and CBP will not release you on bond, and that if you have a fear or returning home, you will need to be VERY vocal about letting everyone know if you are detained.

Undocumented Immigrants with 10 years in the United States and children. You are eligible for Cancellation of Removal, and release on bond. Begin now to prepare the paperwork you will need to secure a bond, and to prove your case. You can read more about this process here. Don't be caught unprepared!

Non-US Citizens (Permanent Residents, Visa Holders, and Undocumented Immigrants) who have a criminal convictions OR are arrested. If you have a criminal conviction, or are even arrested for a crime, ICE has begun to detain people in this category and has released only a very few on bond. If you have relief from removal, you are eligible for bond, but, depending on where you are, you may not be released. Prepare for this by saving money for bond now, and have the paperwork organized so that our attorneys can quickly help seek a bond.

Undocumented Immigrants with prior deportation orders. If you have a prior deportation order and have returned to the United States, you are subject to prosecution by the federal government for the crime of reentry after deportation. President Trump has ordered his U.S. Attorneys to increase the number of people charged with this crime. Depending on WHY you were deported (for example a serious criminal offense), you can spend up to five years in federal prison for reentering the US. Again, make your plans now about how you want to deal with this situation. If you have a deportation order and never left, NOW is the time to speak to an immigration attorney and seek advice about your options to reopen your deportation case.

For those Arrested by ICE, especially for the undocumented--Have a plan in place. Decide now who picks up the kids from school/daycare, who will be authorized to do so with the school, who to contact first, have a power of attorney prepared for this. In the last few weeks we have heard of parents being picked up at school bus stops and at work and home while the kids are in school. Once it happens, there is no time to make arrangements.

Also, do your research now into immigration attorneys that you may call in a moment’s notice. Keep their phone number handy and ready for family and friends to use. Or better yet, go see an excellent immigration attorney now and see what options you may have available to you.

We give these warnings because we want people to be prepared NOT scared. Preparation will ensure that your family is protected. Contact us a 404-816-8611 or ckuck@immigration.net or jgavilanes@immigration.net, if you have any questions or concerns regarding your status.

Police arrest suspect in ritual butchering of his own sister

Kahawa Sukari in Ruiru town. 24-year-old university graduate Charles Kibe is accused of killing his sister in a ritual murder within the town
The 24-year-old university graduate, accused of killing his sister in a ritual murder, has been arrested at a house in Mihango estate, Nairobi. Charles Kibe was found at his aunt’s house, where he was hiding. He is being held at Ruiru police station for interrogation. Last night, detectives recovered more body parts in a pit latrine at the family home in Githurai Kimbo. The search for more parts is still underway at the family home. Kibe, who graduated last year with a bachelor of commerce degree, is suspected to have killed 22-year-old Grace Nduta. She was reported missing on January 29, at Githurai Kimbo police post. On Thursday, Juja police recovered severed body parts, believed to be the remains of the fourth-year Engineering student at JKUAT. The torso and limbs were recovered from a bus bush in Juja Kalimoni by Juja police. More parts were found in a bin at a house in Kahawa West. Police launched a manhunt after the suspect fled the house where remains were discovered. “We asked him to bring a torch to help us search but he took off,” a detective familiar with the investigations said.

The Tsavo lions: The Legendary man-eaters

In 1898, the British were in the process of building a railway bridge over the Tsavo River in Tsavo, Kenya. Over the next nine to ten months, the Indian railway workers hired by the British, as well as native Africans in the area, were terrorized by two lions. At the time, reports estimated that the two lions had killed up to 135 people in less than a year.

We all know that not all lions are as cuddly as Simba or Christian, but they don’t typically hunt men, either. A lion’s diet usually consists of wildebeasts, zebras, and other large prey. Attacks on humans aren’t unheard of, but humans are usually more of a threat to lions due to our technology and superior weapons.

According to the workers, the lions would stalk through the camp at night and drag people from their tents, run off with them, and have a nice dinner. The lions were both male, though they didn’t yet have manes (in fact, lions in the region are known for being “mane-less”).

One worker described the attacks as particularly brutal: “Hundreds of men fell victims to these savage creatures, whose very jaws were steeped in blood. Bones, flesh, skin and blood, they devoured all, and left not a trace behind them.”

In December of 1898, both lions were shot and killed by Lt. Col. John Henry Patterson, who was overseeing the bridge-building project. The first was killed with two shots, while the second required nine bullets before it finally fell. Both of the lions were skinned and spent 25 years on Patterson’s floor as rugs. However, he eventually sold both of the skins to the Field Museum in Chicago for $5000 (about $68,000 in 2013), where they were reconstructed, stuffed, and remain on exhibit today.

The lions’ exploits and their eventual demise became legend, and Patterson became famous for ending it all. He even wrote a book about his adventures titled The Man-Eaters of Tsavo, published in 1907. It was later the basis for a handful of different movies.

All that said, the railroad company only ever acknowledged that 28 workers, all Indian nationals, had been killed by the lions—a far cry from the 135 people that Patterson led everyone to believe. The exact number of deaths has been a matter of dispute for some time. However, recent research backs the railroad’s story.

Scientists took samples of the Tsavo Man-Eaters’ hair and bone collagen, and analysed their chemical composition. By analysing the hair, scientists are able to determine what the lions ate in the last three months of their lives. Bone collagen, on the other hand, develops slowly, allowing scientists to see what the lions typically ate throughout their lives.

The results were compared to DNA from modern Tsavo lions, human samples collected in 1929 in East Africa, and various “normal” prey, such as zebras and wildebeasts. The scientists discovered that both lions had indeed incorporated humans into their diet in their last nine months of life. However, they found that one lion had only eaten about 11 humans, while the other had eaten roughly 24. Both supplemented their diet with herbivores.

The numbers are only estimates, but according to the study, we can say with about 95% accuracy that the lions ate between 4 and 76 people during that nine month time period. With this new research and the railroad company’s figure of 28 deaths- and even factoring in that the lions may have killed some humans that the railroad company knew nothing about- Patterson’s figure seems to be grossly exaggerated.

As you might imagine, it’s thought that he probably gave an exaggerated number to make the whole ordeal seem more spectacular and make himself look good for killing both of the lions and putting an end to their reign of terror.

As to why the lions were feasting on humans at all, there are several different theories. First, the Tsavo River bridge building was taking place in the midst of climate change that had decimated populations of the lions’ preferred food. It’s possible that they had to search for a new food source and found the human workers an easy target. Second, the lion who ate the most people had some severe injuries, including a broken tooth and misaligned jaw. Injured lions have been known to go after people in the past, probably because we’re slower and easier to catch.

Judges reject President Trump's travel ban appeal

Judges have rejected Donald Trump's appeal to have his travel ban immediately reinstated. Judge James Robart suspended the ban on Friday after questioning the constitutionality of the President's controversial executive order, which blocks citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the US. The US appeals court on Sunday denied a formal request by the US Department of Justice to lift the ruling by the federal judge. More follows ...

Kenyans abroad sent home $1.42b to support shilling

Kenyans abroad sent home Sh147 billion ($1.42 billion) for the 10-month period ending October 2016. Data from the Central Bank shows that on average, Kenyans sent home Sh14.7 billion ($141.9 million) each month this year up from Sh13.5 billion ($131 million) to October last year. At Sh14.7 billion a month, higher diaspora remittances are the single largest contributor to foreign exchange ahead of major exports such as tea and tourism. Money from abroad is crucial in cushioning the shilling from dollar pressure currently being driven by demand for payment of month-end import bills. The CBK Governor Patrick Njoroge said part of the external threat to Kenya from the American presidency is the threat of drying up of support from Kenyans abroad if President Trump makes good his threat to deport them. “If you get all those Kenyans arriving here with their belongings wrapped up in a blanket then that will be $160 million gone,” he said. Money from the diaspora and government borrowing may be the saviour of Central Bank foreign currency reserves as it battles to control shilling volatility. Dr Njoroge said the Central Bank had ample reserves not to defend the shilling but to manage volatility so that there are no major spikes. “We had a target of $5,633 million by December 2016 and yet we closed the year at $6,788 million, that shows you where we are,” Njoroge said.

Last week, CBK reported $6,944 million which is equivalent of 4.55 months of import cover. Reuters reported that the Shilling exchanged at 103.8 against the dollar yesterday quoting traders who said the stability drew support expectations of offshore foreign exchange inflows into local Treasury bonds. The Central bank of Kenya blamed rogue traders for the fall of the shilling in the New Year stating that all factors favoured a stable shilling. Njoroge said import orders that require dollars for trading were very low as well as dividend payments at the time and the high demand was driven by speculation rather than fundamentals. “The trading at the forex market was very thin, we have looked at the data, we were doing $10 million to $20 million yet in a normal trading day we do $70 million to $100 million,” he said. The Governor said the low trading activity was due to the holiday effect that is normal after December. “The fundamentals were clear that there was stability, what we had was an occasional indiscipline of a dealer,” Njoroge said. He disputed claims that there were big orders to pay dividends saying the CBK is able to see when big corporates come to the market to get dollar orders to pay dividends. - The Standard

Exclusive! Eunice Njeri’s parents react to the annulment

It is still baffling, days later after fans found out Eunice Njeri called off her marriage, a few hours after saying “I do” at a lavish wedding ceremony in Texas. Eunice Njeri who is loved by many for her numerous worship and inspirational hit songs like Umeniweza, Bwana Yesu, Matunda, Uka, Unatosha and Nimekubali dropped the bombshell on the death of her marriage. “On the 27th November 2016, Isaac and I did go to the altar to get married, but at the end of that day I realised one thing, I couldn’t do it. My heart was somewhere else… A souce who requested anonymity told Word Is, “The day before [the wedding], we were told the wedding was cancelled. However, in church it was announced the wedding was still on and that the congregation should stay after church and witness. Folks said she did not look like she wanted to be there. She was hosted by a friend of ours from church. After the wedding, she went back to her place, left the wedding gown on the bed and she flew out of the country back to Kenya. Then on February 1st, she couldn’t hold it in any longer. Eunice shocked many when she took to social media to publicly announce that her marriage to rapper Izzo, that lasted all of a few hours – actually less than 24 hours – is over. It has been annulled. and that the split was amicable. Her “heart was in Africa”. The source added that Eunice Njeri’s parents want to meet with the pastor and talk about the new developments. “I can tell you for free, the wedding was done hurriedly. Based on this outcome [annulment] It almost seems like it was forced on her. Her parents have been trying to reach our Pastor so they can have a word with him. We are waiting to see how all this pans out,” a source close to the couple told Word Is. -the-star.co.ke

How Your PROSTATE GLAND Is Affected

With PROSTATE ENLARGEMENT

Everyman (including you) has a pair of kidneys. The job of your kidney is to remove waste from your body. It’s the LAWMA (Waste Management Company) of your body. Every day, your blood passes through the kidney several times to be filtered. As the blood is filtered, urine is formed and stored in a temporary storage tank called the urinary bladder.
If there is no urinary bladder, as you walk around in the house or in the office or on the road or anywhere, urine will be dropping. Now, think of the plumbing work in your house. Think again of the urinary bladder as the storage tank for urine. From the storage tank, a good plumber will run pipes to other parts of the house, including the kitchen.

God in His wisdom ran pipes from the kidney to the urinary bladder and finally to the tip of the penis, which is called the urethra. Just below the bladder and surrounding the urethra is a little organ called the Prostate Gland. Your prostate is usually the size of a walnut. it Helps your seminal vesicles to squeeze fluid into your urethra as sperm move through during sexual climax. This fluid becomes an integral part of your semen whose duty is to energize the sperm and reduce the acidity of the vaginal canal.Prostate is located just below the bladder and surrounds the urethra. Your urethra is the tube through which urine passes through your penis.

The size of the bladder is 40 - 60 cl. A bottle of coke is 50cl. As the bladder stores more urine it can enlarge up to 300cl. An overfilled bladder may leak and this leads to wetting / urinary incontinence. Also the volume may put pressure on the kidney and may lead to kidney damage.
What may likely bring the man to hospital is acute urinary retention. He wakes up one day and he is not able to pass urine.

Everything I have described above is associated with prostate enlargement, technically called benign prostate hyperplasia.

There are other diseases of the prostate like:
1. Prostatitis – inflammation of the prostate
2. Prostate cancer – cancer of the prostate.

This discussion is on prostate enlargement.

I have bad news and good news.

The bad news is that everyman will have prostate enlargement if he lives long enough.
The good news is that there are life style changes that can help the man after 40 to maintain optimum prostate health.

Nutrition
Look at what you eat. 33% of all cancers, according to the US National Cancer Institute is related to what we eat.
Red meat everyday triples your chances of prostate disease. Milk everyday doubles your risk. Not taking fruits / vegetables daily quadruples your risk.

Tomatoes are very good for men. If that is the only thing your wife can present in the evening, eat it with joy. It has loads of lycopene. Lycopene is the most potent natural antioxidant.
Foods that are rich in zinc are also good for men. We recommend pumpkin seeds (ugbogulu).
Zinc is about the most essential element for male sexuality and fertility.

Men need more zinc than women. Every time a man ejaculates he loses 15mg of zinc. Zinc is also important for alcohol metabolism. Your liver needs zinc to metabolize alcohol.

ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION
As men begin to have urinary symptoms associated with prostate enlargement, it is important they look at alcohol consumption. More fluid in means more fluid out.

Drink less. Drink slowly.

EXERCISE
Exercise helps build the muscle tone. Every man should exercise. Men over 40 should avoid high impact exercise like jogging. It puts pressure on the knees. Cycling is bad news for the prostate. We recommend brisk walking.

SITTING
When we sit, two-third of our weight rests on the pelvic bones. Men who sit longer are more prone to prostate symptoms. Do not sit for long hours. Walk around as often as you can. Sit on comfortable chairs. We recommend a divided saddle chair if you must sit long hours.

DRESSING
Men should avoid tight underwear. It impacts circulation around the groin and heats it up a bit. While the physiological temperature is 37 degrees, the groin has an optimal temperature of about 33 degrees. Pant is a no - no for men. Wear boxers. Wear breathable clothing.

SMOKING
Avoid smoking. It affects blood vessels and impact circulation around the groin.

SEX
REGULAR SEX IS GOOD FOR THE PROSTRATE

Celibates are more prone to prostate illness. While celibacy is a moral decision, it is not a biological adaptation. Your prostate gland is designed to empty its contents regularly.
NB: SEX MUST BE WITHIN D CONTEXT OF MARRIAGE.

Thought: when someone shared something of value with you and benefit from it. You have a moral obligation to share it with others because someone in your friends list might be saved.

So, Eunice Njeri LIED to Kenyans!
Texas pastor explains what happened at the wedding

- Eunice Njeri has yet again been exposed by the pastor who officiated her wedding to rapper Isaac Bukasa

- The wedding at a Texas church in November of 2016 lasted only day before Njeri flew back to Kenya

- In statement on her Facebook, Njeri claimed that the wedding was annuled after the expiry of a marriage licence after 30 days

- The Texan pastor who officiated the whole shebang has proven that Njeri actually lied about everything

Pastor Jackson Kingori of the Neema Gospel Church in Texas has differed sharply with Eunice Njeri's claims that her wedding to Isaac Bukasa was not legal. Kingori said that he signed the document which had been issued by the county registrar, making the union legal. The document was to be taken back to the church for filing since there was no copy. Speaking to Nairobinews, Kingori says that Njeri dissapeared with the document and didnt take it back for filing. The decision to go separate ways was not mutual, I'm told she ran a day after the wedding with the document, "Kingori was quoted by Nairobinews. The pastor also revealed that Njeri's father had okayed the wedding by giving the couple his go ahead. On a Facebook post, Njeri told her fans that her wedding never happened since she never signed any papers. It turns out that she indeed signed papers that she later disappeared with. Her sister-in-law, Lize Bukasa posted a video on Facebook that showed Njeri signing papers at the church's pew. - www.tuko.co.ke

Tens of thousands of US visas revoked in wake of Trump travel ban

The visas have been cancelled after Donald Trump banned citizens of seven mainly Muslim countries from entering the US.

Donald Trump signs an executive order in the Oval Office

Tens of thousands of visas have been revoked in the wake of Donald Trump's recent travel ban. A US Justice Department lawyer, speaking during a court hearing, said 100,000 visas have been cancelled, the Washington Post reported. But the US State department later contradicted that figure, suggesting the real number was less than 60,000. The State Department said the higher figure included diplomatic and other visas exempted by the travel ban, as well as expired visas. The larger figure emerged in a lawsuit for two Yemenis who arrived at Dulles International Airport, near Washington DC, last Saturday. According to the Washington Post, the brothers said they were coerced into giving up their resident visas, and put on a flight to Ethiopia. Lawyer Simon Sandoval-Moshenberg, representing Tareq and Ammar Aziz, said: "The number 100,000 sucked the air out of my lungs." Last Friday, Mr Trump signed an executive order banning citizens of seven mainly Muslim countries from entering the US. The order affects people holding passports from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen. It also halts temporarily the entry of refugees into the country. The President says the move is necessary for national security, but the measures have been called unconstitutional by Democrats. Asked about the visas being revoked, White House press secretary Sean Spicer said: "I'll have to get back to you on that." He added: "I don't have all the details right now." nIt is believed that up to 200 people have been detained at US airports or in transit because of the order. In a separate case, a federal judge in Detroit ruled that US green card holders should not be affected by the travel ban. That decision follows a lawsuit by the Arab-American Civil Rights League. The organisation argued that the order is unconstitutional and targets immigrant communities.

GREETINGS FROM KENYA

Greetings from Kenya where I have been visiting for the last 2 weeks. I came back yesterday. I had a busy schedule where I met family, friends and businessmen. Among the best deal I came across is that TWO KENYAN BANKS agreed to a 10 per cent loan ONLY for those in the Diaspora in order to help them buy properties in Kenya. A property development company in Nairobi hosted a dinner for me in a Westlands Restaurant where they introduced some of their upcoming housing projects. Their  houses proves to be the cheapest and everyone can afford. We agreed on how to make the 20 per cent deposit and again how to get the loan for the balance. Full information coming up. - Mr. Seed, London, 3rd Feb. 2017.

Please let us help these poor kids and save them from child labour/abuse, use of drugs, joining gangs thus eliminating generations of poverty in their families. If you put a child in school you have put them in right place for their age and given them a chance to a better future by giving them education.

If anyone would be willing to sponsor please call me on contacts below. I will give you the child photo and parent's contact, contact and names of the schools they will be admitted to and schools bank details where you can be paying fees direct to school. Money doesnot pass through me and you can even have a family member visit the child and take them to school

Please have a look at my website below to see children who have been sponsored before and how sponsorship works.

UK Immigration Update - November 2016

During the course of the last few updates, we have been looking at some of the changes we expected the Home Office to introduce this autumn. The Statement of Changes to the Immigration Rules (HC677) has now been laid. This update therefore reviews the major changes affecting employers and their employees. We also highlight some key provisions of the Immigration Act 2016 which are being brought into force.

Abolishment of the 28 day grace period

This was unexpected! The rule previously allowed an individual to make an application for further leave to remain in the UK up to 28 days after their visa had expired. This will be abolished from 24 November 2016. Instead, if someone applies after their visa has expired (known as ‘out of time’), the application will be refused on that basis alone, unless the individual applies within 14 days and has very good reason for overstaying their visa and applying out of time. We expect this to be a very high threshold and employers should therefore be proactive in contacting employees to ensure that visa renewals are submitted in good time.

There is however a 14 day grace period when the individual had applied in time but their original application was refused and they are making a fresh application.

Tier 2 General

Changes will come into effect for all Certificates of Sponsorship (CoS) assigned by Tier 2 Sponsors on or after 24 November 2016.

The changes will include the following points.
The salary threshold for new Tier 2 General hires will increase to £25,000. The New Entrants threshold will however remain at £20,800. This will not apply to workers sponsored before 24 November who apply to extend their Tier 2 General Visa.

The salary is set to increase to £30,000 in April 2017. It is anticipated that there will be no transitional arrangements for workers sponsored in Tier 2 General between 24 November and April 2017 who will need to satisfy the £30,000 threshold in any future application.

UK Graduates who have returned overseas will be more heavily weighted in the Tier 2 Restricted Certificate of Sponsorship monthly allocation.

Applicants sponsored in graduate training programmes may change occupation within the programme or at the end of the programme without their sponsor needing to carry out a further Resident Labour Market Test (RLMT) or for them to make a new application.

From April 2017 sponsors can rely on a milkround that ended up to four years prior to assigning a CoS but only if the worker was offered the job within six months of the milkround taking place.

The rules contain a clarification that the switching from Tier 4 to Tier 2 is only permitted where the applicant studied at the UK recognised body or body in receipt of public funding as a higher education institution and to also prevent an applicant relying on a qualification obtained via supplementary study.

Nurses will remain on the Shortage Occupation List, but a resident labour market test will be required before a CoS can be assigned.
Tier 2 Intra Company Transfer

The salary threshold for Tier 2 Intra Company Transfer (ICT) Short Term Hires will increase to £30,000. Transitional arrangements will be in place for those already in the UK under this route.

The ICT Skills Transfer sub-category will close to new applications.

The salary threshold for Tier 2 Graduate Trainees with decrease to £23,000 while the number of places available to sponsor will increase from five to twenty places a year.

The date for the introduction of the Immigration Health Surcharge for ICT applicants has yet to be determined.
Family migration

From May 2017 a new English language requirement at level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is introduced for applications for further leave to remain in the UK as a partner or parent after completing 30 months in the UK on the five year route to settlement under Appendix FM.

The level of NHS debt is reduced from £1,000 to £500 as a discretionary basis for refusal on the ground of suitability for applications decided on or after 24 November 2016.
Tier 2 Priority Service for Sponsors

On 6 November, the UKVI introduced a new priority service for Tier 2 Sponsors. For a fee of £200, the new priority service will process requests and applications in five working days. The service allows Tier 2 and 5 A-rated sponsors to apply for a faster consideration of four types of change of circumstances request.

These are:

in year certificate of sponsorship (CoS) allocation
follow on CoS allocation
add new Level 1 user
replace an authorising officer (AO).
New immigration regulations for EEA nationals in the UK

The regulation, which comes into force on 1 February 2017 generally formalises the existing practice, but includes:

new regulation stipulating that all applicants must complete an application form when submitting an application

confirmation that there is no right of appeal for extended family members (such as siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles)

the introduction of a new verification process for the UKVI to check whether an EEA national or their family member qualifies to reside in the UK

tightening up of the rules regarding ‘Surinder Singh’ cases, where a British national has exercised treaty rights abroad and now wishes to return to the UK with their non-EEA family members.
Whilst some of the changes appear to be a breach of EU law, it may be that the Government is relying on the fact that we will have left the EU before the ECJ gets around to hearing any challenge to the new regulations.

English language requirement for public sector workers

From 21 November 2016 public authorities will be subject to a new ‘fluency duty’ to ensure that their public facing workers speak fluent English (or in Wales, Welsh). The duty applies to all bodies which carry out functions of a public nature. For further details please see our article.

Immigration appeals

From 1 December 2016, a new ‘remove first, appeal later’ provision will come into force. This will allow the Home Secretary to certify human rights claims not involving asylum or protection issues, to force the individual to leave the UK before their appeal is heard.

Right to rent

From 1 December 2016 it will be a criminal offence for a landlord or their agent to allow their rented accommodation to be occupied by an adult who they know, or have reason to believe is disqualified from renting because they do not have the right to be in the UK. This makes it even more important for landlords to carry out checks before renting their property. A defence is available if the landlord can show they took reasonable steps to end the tenancy within a reasonable time after realising that the tenant does not have the right to rent. New powers of eviction are also being introduced.

Prevention of illegal working

HMRC is consulting on draft regulations, under which an employer subject to a civil penalty for employing an illegal worker will be excluded from claiming the usual NICs employment allowance. This would apply for the full tax year, following the year in which the penalty has been imposed and appeal rights exhausted. The consultation closed on 3 January 2017. The potential for this additional sanction to be imposed makes it more important than ever for employers to ensure they are completing appropriate right to work checks.

'Terrorist' armed with machete shot at Louvre

A French soldier has shot a man after he tried to enter the Louvre museum in Paris carrying a machete and two backpacks.Paris police chief Michel Cadot said the attacker shouted "Allahu akbar (God is greatest)" as he "launched" himself at the soldier in the Carrousel du Louvre area of the popular attraction. The soldier - part of a four-man patrol - fired five times, hitting the man in the legs and stomach and seriously injuring him. The assailant became violent when he was told he could not enter with his bags. Two machetes were found at the scene. Mr Cadot said: "We are dealing with an attack from an individual who was clearly aggressive and represented a direct threat, and whose comments lead us to believe that he wished to carry out a terrorist incident." Prime Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said: "It appears to be an attempted attack of a terrorist nature." A spokesman for the French interior ministry said the identity of the attacker was unknown.

Aga Khan Hospital comes to the rescue of boy with coin stuck in his throat for weeks

A nurse at Aga Khan Hospital in Mombasa shows the coin that had been stuck in three-and-a-half-year-old Samson Mwangiri’s throat for 15 days. Doctors at the hospital removed it on February 3, 2017. Holding the boy is Saadia Ogle. A team of doctors at Aga Khan Hospital in Mombasa have successfully removed a coin that was stuck in the throat of a three-and-a-half-year-old baby boy for two weeks. The boy’s health was quickly deteriorating after he swallowed the coin while playing with his mates at school in Bamburi. He had to live with the coin in his throat for lack of medical services in public hospitals after doctors went on strike on December 5, 2016. But Friday morning, a paediatric gastroenterologists led a team of doctors in removing the coin that had caused agony to Samson Kaingu, who had difficulties feeding and excreting. After the story was published by Nation.co.ke, Kenyans of goodwill from across the country and overseas, including private doctors, came forth and offered to ensure the child gets quick medical attention. - Daily Nation.

MISSING JKUAT STUDENT FOUND CHOPPED,

BODY PARTS STUFFED IN BUCKET

Grace Nduta Mwaura was last seen on January 28, 2017

A 24-year old university student has been accused of murdering his sister in a ritual-like manner in Ruiru. Police said the 22-year old girl's killer chopped her body and stuffed some pieces in a bucket. The bucket was found at a house in Kahawa West. The officers said the torso and limb were found in a bush at Juja kalimoni by officers from Juja police station. They said the victim is believed to be Grace Nduta, who was a fourth year Engineering student at Jkuat. Nduta was reported missing on January 29 at Githurai Kimbo police station. Central region police chief Larry Kiyeng said they began searching for her brother after he fled from the house in question. The suspect graduated last year with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. "We asked him to bring a torch for use in the search but he took off. We want to know why," a detective familiar with the probe said on Thursday. The officers said they were yet to establish the motive for the killing. - The Star

Mwai Kibaki and Daniel Moi IDs used to list other people to vote

Former presidents Mwai Kibaki and Daniel arap Moi are among thousands of Kenyans whose names were used to register other people to vote. Mr Moi’s ID number 1 – or 0000001 – has been used to register one Joseph Marrion Nchabani Mwika, indicated to have been born on January 1, 1968, and whose unique identity in the BVR system is 575114. Mr Moi’s name does not appear in the BVR registers when his ID number is keyed in. Instead it is Mwika’s name that pops up, giving credence to fears that the electoral commission register may have been corrupted. Mr Kibaki’s ID number – 2 or 00000002 – has been used to register eight different voters, namely Gitonga Wilson Kimathii, Kanja Julius Ngede Kihinge, Evans Kariuki Kirinya, Victoria Gatwiri, Mu Ko Mugara, Duncan Muia, Mbinya Wanjiru, and Caroline Nduta. All the eight people registered under Mr Kibaki’s ID card number have been assigned unique identification numbers in the BVR system. On Thursday, we established that Mr Kibaki’s ID card, replaced as a duplicate on October 11, 2005, is not registered as his in the voters' list.

IEBC CLERKS

He also said Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission clerks who agree to use such numbers to register voters are “suffering from idiocy”. “The people who are receiving those ID numbers and registering people using them are to blame first because of their idiocy. It is common sense that such rare numbers can only be used by VIPs. I am alarmed,” he said. Mr Moi’s press secretary, Lee Njiru, described the use of the former president’s ID number as unfortunate and urged the electoral commission to correct the problem. Identity card numbers 0 and 00, also used to register individuals as voters, were found to be non-existent at the Registrar of Persons’ records. But our investigations had established that in the BVR kit, ID number 00 has been used to register one Awiti Otieno, listed as having been born on January 1, 1994. We also established that ID number 11 is assigned to one Darius Msaga Mbela; 20 to John Muguku Wachira; 21 to James Kasyula Mutua; 22 to Githiuni Simon Danson; 23 to Joseph Kainga Mutunga; 24 to Kipyator Nicholas Kiprono Kibet; 25 to John Chelagat Kipto; 28 to Ephantus Kamuri Gathuri; 29 to Simon Reuben Njage; and 40 to Henry Luwis Thiongo Njihia. Five other IDs presented by Mr Odinga are listed as pending replacement. They are 12, assigned to Okumu Peter Mark; 231 to Onyango Omondi Mathaye; 111 to Benson Musa Nzioka; 26 to Joseph Augustine Githenji; and 27 to Philip Ndegwa.

TO COMPLAIN

On Thursday, Mr Odinga said his team had written to the electoral commission to complain. “We want to have a meeting with the new commission to discuss some of these things. It is serious to note that we have an unreliable voters’ register,” Mr Odinga said. Some Opposition leaders have called for the overhaul of the commission’s ICT department. They say it had been infiltrated. But electoral commission chairman Wafula Chebukati called for calm, adding that the register will be cleaned up to make it credible. Mr Chebukati blamed the mess on the 2012 registration, conducted under commissioners who retired last month, and said such anomalies should not be used to discredit the entire polling process. “We wish to confirm that some of the numbers highlighted by the Cord leader are indeed part of the 128,926 ID numbers that are [the] subject of the ongoing clean-up,” said the commission’s chief executive Ezra Chiloba. “Most of these numbers were keyed into the system during the 2012 registration and do not relate to the current mass voter registration campaign.” He described the matter as historical and promised to effectively address it to ensure the hitches are not transferred into the 2017 polls. - Daily Nation.

Kenya loses round one in sea row case with Somalia

Attorney-General Githu Muigai who argued that the case was an unnecessary stumbling block to the fledgling relations between the two countries, especially on security cooperation.

Kenya has lost its bid to stop a case filed by Somalia over a maritime dispute from going to a full hearing. Judges at the International Court of Justice on Thursday dismissed the two reasons fronted by Kenya’s lawyers that there exists an alternative method of resolving the matter and that the case is invalid because the alternative method had not been exhausted. In a ruling delivered on Thursday, the court’s President Ronny Abraham poked holes into a Memorandum of Understanding signed between Kenya and Somalia, which Nairobi had said constitutes an agreement to use the UN Commission on Law of the Sea instead of the court. “The question before the court is whether the parties agreed to a method of delimitation (of the area under dispute) other than the court,” the 66-year-old French judge told the court.

He declared the MoU was not intended to establish a specific procedure for the settlement of the maritime dispute. The court also rejected Somalia’s argument that the MoU was not binding because Parliament had rejected it. The court found that the MoU signed by Kenya’s then Foreign Minister Moses Wetang’ula and Somalia’s then Minister of Planning, and the current presidential candidate Abdirahman Abdishakur was a valid bilateral agreement. The judge said the document did not require parliamentary approval as had been argued by Mogadishu because the two ministers were authorised representatives of their respective governments. The Kenyan legal team argued that the court lacked jurisdiction since both Kenya and Mogadishu had agreed on an alternative dispute settlement. When Kenya joined the UN, it indicated in 1965 that it would agree to the court’s general jurisdiction only as long as there were no alternative methods of resolving disagreements.

“It does not, however, prescribe a method of settlement. Consequently this case does not, by virtue of the MoU, fall out of this court,” the judge said, reading a judgement in which four of the 13 judges of the court dissented. The decision means that Mogadishu has won round one of the dispute and the case will go to a full hearing at a date to be announced by the International Court of Justice. Attorney General Githu Muigai, who was in court during the hearing, had argued that the case was an unnecessary stumbling block to the fledgling relations between the two countries, especially on security cooperation. But while Somalia acknowledged Kenya’s support in fight against Al Shabaab, Ms Mona Al-Sharmani, Somalia’s senior presidential advisor, told the court the very existence of the dispute was an unnecessary divergence that must be resolved. Somalia sued Kenya in August 2014 saying the boundary should extend diagonally to the south at Kiunga into the sea, and not eastwards as it is today. But that may also affect Kenya’s sea border with Tanzania. The area in contest is about 100,000 square kilometres, forming a triangle east of the Kenya coast. In 2009, Kenya and Somalia reached an MoU, which was deposited to the UN in 2011. The agreement had stated that the border would run east. - Daily Nation.

Akasha sons and two foreign nationals face drug trafficking charges in US

Suspects (from left) Baktash Akasha, Vijaygiri Goswami, Gulam Hussein and Ibrahim Akasha (partly hidden) with their Lawyer Cliff Ombeta at Mombasa Law Courts on January 23, 2017. PHOTO | KEVIN ODIT | NATION MEDIA GROUP

Two sons of the slain drug baron Ibrahim Akasha and two foreign nationals are in America to face charges in a New York court of trafficking heroin and other drugs. The two, along with the other suspects, have been fighting extradition for more than three years. They were caught in a US undercover operation where they supplied 100 kilos of heroin and two kilos of methamphetamines to agents posing as dealers in 2014. This came as the High Court in Mombasa declined to issue arrest warrants against Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet and Director of Criminal Investigations Ndegwa Muhoro whom it had summoned to produce Baktash Akasha, Ibrahim Akasha, Indian national Vijaygiri Goswami and Pakistani citizen Gulam Hussein, whose whereabouts were then unknown.
In America, the arrival of the sons of the late Akasha was announced by US Attorney for the Southern District of New York Preet Bharara and a special agent Raymond Donovan of the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
“Four individuals charged with participating in a narcotics importation conspiracy arrived in New York from Kenya,” they said in a statement on the website of the US Attorney’s Office (USAO). Read More…

UK Wednesday's national newspaper front pages

Sky News takes a look at the stories making a splash on the front pages of Wednesday's national newspapers.

(Left) The i reports that Donald Trump may face one of the largest public demonstrations in British political history  and Daily Express (right) The Daily Express reports a plan by a group of remain MPs to block the UK's exit from the European Union.

Britons with dual citizenship exempt from Donald Trump´s travel ban

UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson anUS President Donald Trump

Britons with dual citizenship will be exempt from Donald Trump’s controversial travel ban, the Foreign Office has confirmed. The US president’s team has told Boris Johnson that Britons who have shared nationality with one of the seven mainly Muslim countries will not be stopped from entering America.
The Foreign Secretary has spent the day speaking to the President’s senior adviser Jared Kushner and chief strategist Stephen Bannon about the implications of immigration curbs. His officials later issued guidance about what the border clampdown means for the UK.

The statement said:
The ban only applies to individuals travelling from one of the seven named countries – Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.

Travellers to the US from anywhere other than one of those countries will experience no extra checks regardless of nationality or place of birth.

UK nationals travelling from one of those countries are not included in the ban even if they were born in one of the affected states.
Dual citizens from one of the seven countries travelling to the US from outside those countries are not affected.
Dual nationals might have extra checks if they travel directly from one of the seven countries.

Why Queen will welcome Donald Trump despite protests

The Queen recognises the Royal Family is a 'secret weapon' for the UK and can make other world leaders feel special.

The Queen (centre) will welcome President Trump regardless of protests. There were demonstrations when President George W Bush (left) visited Buckingham Palace in 2003. Queen is seen (right) with Russia's Vladimir Putin when he visited Buckingham Palace in 2003. Queen is seen (right) with Russia's Vladimir Putin when he visited UK visited in 2003.

On dozens of occasions the Queen has opened up her home and extended the hand of hospitality to foreign heads of state. It is always her name on the invitation of a state visit, after all how could any world leader turn down an opportunity to meet Her Majesty? But she doesn't get to choose her latest guest - these visits always come at the request of the government and Foreign Office. They decide who is worthy of a full state visit and the latest invitation to President Trump is no different. It will not be the first time that a guest of the Queen has raised a few eyebrows. There were protests during the visits of the Chinese and Saudi heads of state to London. Names such Romania's President Nicolae Ceausescu, Russia's Vladimir Putin and President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe are possibly all signatures the Queen would rather not have in her guest book.

The momentum behind this petition asking to scrap President Trump's state visit has still come as a surprise, with over a million signatures claiming "it would cause embarrassment to Her Majesty the Queen". Does she see it that way? I doubt it. While the palace has so far stayed quiet about the visit, the Queen realises it is her duty to be friendly and welcoming to all of her guests, and that her hospitality is an important way in which she can serve our country. She knows the quiet power the Royal Family has on the international stage; they are a secret weapon for the government. An audience with the Queen is enough to make any world leader feel special. Not every American president has received a full state visit but that's exactly what Donald Trump will experience.

British pageantry at its finest: the dust sheets are pulled off the gold carriages, the state banquet cutlery is polished. The ultimate in keeping up appearances, even if hundreds of thousands of your subjects would rather this latest guest had stayed at home. Read More…Eight controversial state visits.

A last-minute change of the agenda and the refusal by Uganda, Djibouti and Burundi to vote for Kenya were last evening blamed for the defeat of Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed in the race to become chairperson of African Union Commission. Details of the shock trouncing in Addis Ababa on Monday afternoon emerged as Kenyan diplomats came to terms with the loss after an extensive campaign of three months that cost the country about Sh350 million.

DENNIS NJIIRI IN THE STREETS OF NEW YORK

CLICK HERE FOR A QUICK TOUR OF NEW YORK CITY

As Dennis Njiiri continues with his 4 months world tour, he took time to visit the City of New York that is President Trump's city. He said that the trains in New York are dirty compared to London's underground and the city is busier than London. The city is more far much colder than UK but very busy and friendly city. Known by many nicknames, including the "Empire State" and "The Big Apple," New York City is one of the most important places in the world. As one of the largest and most diverse cities, New York is home to many famous and talented people. Over its long history, New Yorkers have filled the city with thousands of important landmarks. Additionally, because New York City is home to so many cultural attractions, millions of visitors flock there annually to experience the city first hand. All of these factors lead many people to consider New York the finest city on Earth, and simply call it "The City" to demonstrate its greatness. His next stop is Boston before going to Canada.

Who is financing Dennis Njiiri World Tour?: Before going to the University, Dennis wanted to have a gap year and tour the world. The parents refused and advised him to join the university, work and pay for his dream tour and then proceed. He agreed and he has been planning for his tour for the last one year paying the travel agent by instalments. To reduce the costs he shopped for both hotels and hostels. He got an expert who helped with advice when travelling for several months - travel light, avoid carrying expensive items to avoid attraction and be disciplined. The parents advised him to print for them the entire tour programme so that they can always located his whereabouts. A Kenyan travel agent in Nottingham, UK Ease Travel booked the tour for him. Their contact is Grace Kamau 07557945963.

People ask me about bursaries but they are given to very few children who in most cases have to have 'someone' pushing for them. If lucky they get about ksh5,000 a year which doesn't help a poor child very much as the parents cannot afford the balances.

NEW CHURCH IN LEEDS YOUR ARE ALL WELCOME

TO THE OFFICIAL LAUNCH. GOD BLESS YOU

WORD OF TODAY

Psalm 118:6

Four Steps to Overcoming Fear
We read in Psalm 118:6: "The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?" First, be willing to take a risk. Yes, you might be hurt or embarrassed - so what? To overcome insecurity and gain confidence you must allow yourself the freedom to take a chance. Start writing that book, take those music lessons, stand up and speak at the meeting! Feel the fear and do it anyway! ‘Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe’ (Proverbs 29:25 NIV 2011 Edition). Second, learn to laugh at yourself. Get over your obsessive need for approval and acceptance and learn to laugh at your mistakes. We’re all human; stop taking yourself so seriously! When you make a mistake, be the first to see the funny side, and you’ll find people more supportive than you think. Third, start thinking realistically. It’s time to drop the security blanket and realise it’s not all about you. You are not the centre of the universe, and your little faux pas don’t mean that much in the bigger scheme of things. Besides, mistakes are often better teachers than success. Fourth, reward yourself for little victories. When you complete a project, reward yourself. When you take advice or correction without retaliating, reward yourself. Often the people we lash out at, are those trying the hardest to help us. Get used to the idea that you’re valuable, talented, and skilled, and your worth in God’s eyes is inestimable. Stop scrutinising yourself through distorted lenses and start seeing yourself with 20/20 vision. Once you can do that, your fears will be replaced by confidence in yourself and in your future.

A Whispers from London How this year will be to you

Written by: Man ManKambugua        E-mail: manman@fsmail.net     Facebook: Man Man Kambugua

.

I will start by wishing each and every one of you a happy New Year 2017. My prayer is that this will be a good year for you. I want you to be successful and have the best peace of mind. I want your life to be a holiday because you are a child of the most high. Unfortunately, not everybody is successful or has peace of mind. This is because some of the character that we acquire in life are detrimental to our success and peace of mind. There are some of us whose minds are full of turbulence and since blessings come to those who are peaceful, it will be a cold day in hell if their lives become a holiday in this world. The devil has laid powerful traps on their way where they easily fall into it line, hook and sinker! Let me ask you; how do you think year 2017 will be for you? Answer – Year 2017 will just be like year 2016 or the years before if you do not transform you mind set and have a new way of doing things.

From the way relationships hit rocks in the West, there must be a demon of relationships in this part of the world. It is very normal for spouses to live in harmony in Africa but once they start living in the West, the demon in them wakes up and starts laying strategies on how to make them part ways. One needs no effort to have his/her relationship go down the drain. It will start with the wife starting to earn her own money and getting a council house plus some few benefits here and there making her feel that she is above the husband. In Africa, she has never imagined tasting alcohol or shouting at her husband but once in the West, if the husband earns less than her, she will not respect him. In fact she only remembers that her husband is a man when she sees him urinate when standing up.

God be with you my brother if you lose your job and you are at the mercy of your wife who you fondly call darling, boo and the London’s most cursed name- Sweet heart. Those nice names you call each other in church or during birthday parties will disappear the moment finance in the family becomes a challenge. As a wife, you know very well that you are well protected by the state in case your husband lays a finger on you so you are free to do what you want. The moment you realise that your hubby is nobody is the moment the devil starts unleashing his evil plans on you. First of all, he will tell you to buy an undersized bra so that your cleavage will look more pronounced. You will then buy short skirts which will definitely annoy your husband, all this being the advice from the devil in you. If your hubby asks you dress properly, you will tell him to remember that you are in diaspora and what you have as the ‘dashboard’ is in fact your set of property. The devil has convinced you that they are a set of property but what the Angel from Heaven would tell you is that the best property is your brain not your 34 DD.

In a nutshell, we must protect our relationships jealously because all relationships in the West are vulnerable. If you are in the West and your relationship has never undergone real difficulties, then you live in another world. Human beings are all like turn-coats in that they are very good at pretending that all is okay in their relationships but in the real sense most relationships died long time ago. We are only waiting for the burial dates. In relationships, we need to be people whose honesty and integrity is beyond reproach so that we do not give the devil a chance. How do you know that your relationship is in problems? Here is the answer; when you go to bed tonight, see whether your legs and that of your spouse are far part. If you are sleeping at this corner and your spouse is in the other extreme corner that is an alarm to show that your relationship is in very serious problems. Do you know the most honest part of your body? It is the feet because they don’t lie. Alternatively, when you and your spouse are having a disagreement, listen carefully at what your spouse is saying.

When the right moment comes, talk about it. You will be surprised to find that the issues you thought are secrets are well known to him or her. For example, when your wife went to visit her relatives in another part of town, you went online and booked for a weekend holiday for you and your girlfriend. Since the devil is smart, the moment you went to print the tickets, the printer jammed and you forgot about it. You cheated your wife that you were going to Plymouth for the so called ‘Marathon’ in Security job. By bad luck, when your wife started the printer, the first thing that it printed was pending printing job which obviously was your flight tickets with your girlfriend. Your ‘Marathon’ ended on Monday and you came calling your wife those nice names little knowing that she knew everything. You have always pretended to be an Angel but your wife knows that you cannot be trusted with anything of female gender.

Forget what your Pastors or Bishops prophesied on you about the New Year being the year of double double, double portion or year of completion. Not unless you transform your character, this year will be just like any other year. We all like financial breakthrough but do we read books on finance? How many autobiographies on those people who have made it have we read? Do we watch programmes on money making or it is just about football matches and some other programmes on people whose every other word is a swear word? If you lose your job today, do you have a plan ‘B’ as a safety net?If you are a man and your work is looking after your children when your wife is working, think again my brother.

If your wife works with intelligent people or for highly intelligent boss, her love will soon gravitate towards her colleagues or your boss. I am imagining a situation where your wife has been in a company’s meeting where they were discussing about the effects of Brexit in the Company’s Balance sheet especially on the International Accounting Standard number five. Meanwhile, as a man, you are busy with your baby Piccadilly at home. When your wife comes home, you hug her while smelling baby Piccadilly and then you start telling her how ugali made from millet goes down well with fermented milk. She fakes a smile and then looks up wondering when you will finish your verbal diarrhoea. Watch out! She is only with you for convenience and it will be a miracle if your relationship survives this year. Who is the cause of all this? Your laziness and lack of focus.

How on earth can God bring you to diaspora and you have never helped anyone? I believe you are paid in real money not hair from your arm pits so there is no way you can be there and you have never used a dime to help a kid somewhere. That kid that you abandoned in Africa is crying for you. Another year has started and the one who helped to create him or her is nowhere. There is God somewhere who will punish you on your kid’s behalf. Curses are real and you will remain cursed until you know the value of children.

I need special knowledge to understand how a husband can have his own project and the wife her own and still answer in the name of a couple. To be honest you are flat mates or sex partners. The only common factor is the children. Nothing more nothing less. Not unless you realise that you are one and do things together, this year will not be different. You will remain flat mates or sex partners for the rest of the year and beyond. Meanwhile, real couples have the world at their feet. They have already reached Canaan while you two are still playing with sand in Egypt’s Sahara desert.

There are some people whose projected goals this year is to be global business people. In their diaries, they have arranged for important meetings with investors for joint ventures in various countries around the world. As for you, you have planned that in January you are going to quarrel with Man Man, next will be Michael or Abu. On February you plan to attack Misterseed, Petite, Rose and Dorcas. You have a full list of people you have lined up to give a piece of your mind. When we are thinking of going to the moon, you and your better half are just revolving around a circle creating imaginary enemies. Your life will not change just because we are in a new year. Not unless you have renewed mind set, your life is at a risk of remaining stagnant. There is power in you to transform your character. When your character is transformed, your life will transform. Listen to the strangest secret in life - As a man thinks, so shall he become.

PLEASE HELP A POOR CHILD GO TO SECONDARY SCHOOL THIS YEAR

I start with a word of thank you to all the people who have sponsored children in the last 8 years from UK, USA, France, Swirtzland and Holland. Special thanks to Misterseed for they have all been sponsored courtesy of your website which advertises for me free of charge. We have all changed many poor lives in Kenya.

It is january again and I have a large number of children needing help to go to secondary school this year. Last year I had a list of over 40 children and apart from helping 7, that were sponsored, most others did not go to sch due to lack of funds and are still willing to go now a year later if they get funds. Below are a few of the children needing a sponsor.

1. Ruth Wambui 270/500 - Oprhan and failed to go last year for lack of school fees

15. Joseph Njoroge 362/500 - GG Sec Sch

Please let us help these poor kids to eliminate generations of poverty in their families.

People ask me about bursaries but they are given to very few children who in most cases have to have 'someone' pushing for them. If lucky they get about ksh5,000 a year which doesn't help a poor child very much as the parents cannot afford the balances.

If anyone would be willing to sponsor please call me on contacts below. I will give you the child photo and contact, contact and names of the schools they will be admitted to and schools bank details where you can be paying fees direct to school. Please have a look at my website below to see children who have been sponsored before and how sponsorship works.

A Kenyan lady in UK has published a book

Annah Kimani (right) from Birmingham, UK, has written a book on the left

A Kenyan lady in UK has written a book “Be Obedient to God’s calling; when He calls you, will you Answer?”. The author Annah Kimani or Mama Gloria lives in Birmingham, UK. The whole purpose of this book is to encourage the believers in Jesus Christ to reach out and do that which the Lord has commissioned or is commissioning them to do; for the Kingdom of God. “Heed (pay attention to) instruction and be wise, and do not ignore or neglect it.” Proverbs 8:33 (AMP). “And [His gifts to the church were varied and] He Himself appointed some as apostles [special messengers, representatives], some as prophets [who speak a new message from God to the people], some as evangelists [who spread the good news of salvation], and some as pastors and teachers [to shepherd and guide and instruct]. 12 [and He did this] to fully equip and perfect the saints (God’s people) for works of service, to build up the body of Christ [the church].” Ephesians 4:11-12 (AMP) Foreword: ….this is one of the most interesting and absorbing books I have read in a very long time. I know that when you read this small but comprehensive book, by the end of it, you will be encouraged and challenged; your life will never be the same again!

DENNIS NJIIRI VISITS HOLLYWOOD

The Fascinating History of the Hollywoodland Sign – CLICK HERE FOR VIDEO

Before retiring to celebrate Christmas with family friends in Florida, USA, Dennis Njiiri visited Los Angeles in California. He visited Hollywood Sign, the worldwide symbol of the entertainment industry, was conceived as an outdoor ad campaign for a suburban housing development called "Hollywoodland." After all, despite the high profile of the film biz, real estate has always been Hollywood's primary economic driver. Although the Sign's appearance and purpose have evolved over the years, its basic aspirational message remains the same: This is a place where magic is possible, where dreams can come true. Back then, the dream was a beautiful home and lifestyle. Today, the Sign's promise is more subtle - and can only be described as the parade of images, desires and ideas conjured by the word "Hollywood." Come explore the fascinating past and present of this icon, town, industry, and idea in our detailed History of the Sign. Baby Seed as he is well known left UK for Kenya at the beginning of October for Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, Dubai, Australia, South America, US (five states) and ending his tour in Canada coming back to UK in February 2017. The Seeds family and friends wish him a safe journey.
