Launching of The World of Akamba Association

on Saturday 17th May, 2003 in London

The World of Akamba Association in was launched on Saturday 17th May, 2003 at the Club Unique Diplomat 239 The Broadway, West Hendon, London. It was a day for the Kambas to remember as a big number of Kambas came from all works of life making it the biggest ever Kamba gathering in London. The colourful function which was well attended by Kambas and non-Kambas was marked Kambas traditional food and music in the heart of London. The chief guests during the launching was Retired Major Sam Kilonzo.

After introducing the chief guest, the chairman of the organisation Mr. Henry Masaka Ngei explained to the members the aims and objectives of the organisation. Mr. Ngei explained that the aim of the organisation was to promote Kamba cultural values worldwide. With this in mind the organisation will help promote unity among Kamba in UK for a stronger Kenyan society in UK. The organisation will work out ways and means of helping other Kenyans in Kenya and especially in Machakos, Kitui and Kulungu where most of the time is hit by dry seasons. Kamba food was in plenty including  Muthokoi, Mukeu, Isyo, Ngima, Nyama syauvivya, Sukuma wiki, Kyavati, na mboka ya Nguku na Mbui. Kamba music including Kamba Gospel, Kakai, Kyanganga, Muema Bros, Mukuyuni boys, Katitu boys, Kilimambogo na Kalambya boys and sisters etc. The chairman explained that the organisation was legally registered in UK.

The executive committee include Ann Wambua (Assistant Public Relations officer), Frank Nzioka (Assistant Youth Leader), Michael Kimondiu (Secretary), Kyalo Mbaluka (Organising Secretary), Esther Ndau Kimanzi (Youth Leader), Henry Masaku Ngei, (Chairman), Susan Kilonzo, Feroz Musau, Elizabeth Ngewa and Mary Mutua.
