Kenya High Commissioner visits the community in Essex
Kenya High Commissioner in the UK HE Joseph Muchemi was among the guests at a church service in Grays Essex, on Sunday 25th June 2006. The commissioner who was on a familiarisation tour to meeting Kenyans in Essex attended the service at Proclaimers Sanctuary, situated on Dell Road, in Grays town near Tilbery. The commissioner who was accompanied by his wife Mrs. Cecilia Muchemi was welcomed at the church by the Senior Pastor of the Church Rev. Joseph Karanja. The preacher of the day was Bishop Joseph Njuguna Warui from Camberwell Christian Centre in South London. At the service the High Commissioner presented a Kenyan child, Elizabeth Nyambura Mbugua, 10, with a £138,000 scholarship certificate to a grammar school. The girl is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Mbugua of Grays who have worked hard day and night for the last four months with the tutor to make their daughter qualify for the scholarship. The girl is going to a grammar school. Only about five Kenyans families in UK who have managed to take their children to a grammar school. The tutor of the children is Dr. Chris of Excellence in Education a lecturer in a London University.
While addressing the congregation in the church, the High Commissioner explained that the situation in Kenya is improving steadily. The economy has improved and with a 5 per cent growth. The farmers are being paid in time. A number of new jobs have been created and the environment is now good for investments. He urged Kenyans in the UK to invest in Kenya.
