Kenya High Commissioner visits the community in Essex
Kenya High Commissioner in the UK HE Joseph Muchemi was among the guests at a church service in Grays Essex, on Sunday 25th June 2006. The commissioner who was on a familiarisation tour to meeting Kenyans in Essex attended the service at Proclaimers Sanctuary, situated on Dell Road, in Grays town near Tilbery. The commissioner who was accompanied by his wife Mrs. Cecilia Muchemi was welcomed at the church by the Senior Pastor of the Church Rev. Joseph Karanja. The preacher of the day was Bishop Joseph Njuguna Warui from Camberwell Christian Centre in South London. At the service the High Commissioner presented a Kenyan child, Elizabeth Nyambura Mbugua, 10, with a £138,000 scholarship certificate to a grammar school. The girl is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Mbugua of Grays who have worked hard day and night for the last four months with the tutor to make their daughter qualify for the scholarship. The girl is going to a grammar school. Only about five Kenyans families in UK who have managed to take their children to a grammar school. The tutor of the children is Dr. Chris of Excellence in Education a lecturer in a London University.
While addressing the congregation in the church, the High Commissioner explained that the situation in Kenya is improving steadily. The economy has improved and with a 5 per cent growth. The farmers are being paid in time. A number of new jobs have been created and the environment is now good for investments. He urged Kenyans in the UK to invest in Kenya. Harri Tiihonen laid to rest in London
The late Harri Tiihonen the husband of Kenyan banker in London Mrs. Esther Wairumbi Tiihonen was laid to rest in London on Tuesday 6th June, 2006. Tiihonen passed away on Thursday 25th May, 2006. The couple married in Finland in 1997 before moving to UK in 1998. Harri's body was removed from undertakers home - T. Cribb Funeral Home in Beckon at about 11.00 a.m. heading to Memorial Baptist Church where the ceremony started at 12.00 noon. The ceremony was conducted by Rev. Odima of Abundant Life Fire Ministry where the late Harri Tiihonen worshiped, assisted by Rev. Joseph Karanja of Proclaimers Sanctuary, Essex. The church choir took to the platform for a very impressive performance farewell to one of their members. Several relatives from Finland arrived for the funeral among them, Harri's sister and her husband who spoke in both English and Finnish at the ceremony. Speaker by speaker, they spoke of the how good and outgoing the late Harri was - a man who managed to jump over the cultural barriers to marry in Kenya. After the church service the body was escorted by a large number of family and friends to its final resting place - City of London Cemetery and Crematorium in Manor Park, East London. The body was laid to rest at about 4.30 p.m. in an special area at the cemetery where headstone is to be constructed later.
