Pastor convicted of sex attacks
A charismatic preacher who led one of Britain's biggest churches faces jail after being convicted of two indecent assaults on one of his congregation. Douglas Goodman, 47, had been accused of preying on four women at the Victory Christian Centre, north London. An Old Bailey jury also convicted him of perverting the course of justice and an attempted sex assault. But it cleared him of two indecent assaults and failed to reach verdicts on a further seven and one rape charge. The pastor, who denied 14 charges, is due to be sentenced on Friday. The Charity Commission and Metropolitan Police fraud squad are investigating allegations that £3m went missing from the church's funds. Judge Gerald Gordon remanded Goodman on bail but warned he should expect a prison sentence. The alleged attacks between 1997 and 2002 related to four women aged 17 between 32. Prosecutor John Coffey QC told the trial Goodman was the spiritual leader of the church, in Kilburn - once Britain's second biggest church. "He acted in a predatory fashion, singling out those who were vulnerable," he told the court. "He targeted mainly younger members of the congregation, posing as a paternal figure, rendering them susceptible to his advances. "He abused his position and their trust." One 17-year-old woman said Goodman had paid for her and a friend to attend a church trip to Florida and bought her an A-class Mercedes. But the jury did not reach a verdict on her allegation of indecent assault. They found him guilty of two assaults against 19-year-old "Miss B", at a cinema in Finchley Road, north London. After the first assault, the court was told Goodman apologised and said they had to put themselves into "the path of temptation" to prove they could beat it. But he again assaulted her in the cinema, the trial heard. He was also found guilty of attempting to steal a kiss from a 26-year-old woman in his car, but the jury could not agree on another charge involving an incident in his office. The pastor was cleared of two counts of indecent assault against a woman with whom he had had an affair - but the jury could not reach a verdict on a rape charge. The women said they were told to leave the church when they complained to church elders. Courtenay Griffiths QC, Goodman's defence barrister, compared him to former US president Bill Clinton and former prime minister John Major. "Did they end up in the dock? No!," he told the jury. "He [Goodman] may be guilty of a moral failing, but this is not a court of morals. He is not on trial for infidelity or hypocrisy." Goodman's supporters said the allegations were made up to discredit him. The congregation includes singer Patti Boulaye and former footballer John Fashanu. It was the second time Goodman, of Turnberry Lane, Collingtree, Northampton, had faced trial. The jury could not reach verdicts at the first trial last July. The Victory Christian Centre closed down in December 2002.
NAIROBI -- Anglican archbishops from Africa said yesterday they would reject donations from any diocese that recognizes gay clergy and recommended giving the Episcopal Church in the United States three months to repent for ordaining an openly gay bishop. The archbishops also said they will refuse cooperation with any missionary who supports ordaining gay priests. They said the Episcopalians -- the American branch of Anglicanism -- should be disciplined for the election last year of V. Gene Robinson as bishop of New Hampshire. Robinson has lived openly with his male partner for years.
"If we suffer for a while to gain our independence and our freedom and to build ourselves up, I think it will be a good thing for the church in Africa," Archbishop Peter Akinola of Nigeria told journalists. "And we will not, on the altar of money, mortgage our conscience, mortgage our faith, mortgage our salvation." He spoke at a meeting of African Anglican archbishops and their counterparts from Asia, the Caribbean, and Latin America. The other regions planned to issue a statement today.
Akinola is also chairman of the Council of Anglican Provinces of Africa, which represents 12 national and regional churches plus the diocese of Egypt. Africans comprise about half of the 77 million members of the global Anglican Communion, and African churches are the fastest-growing in the world. Robinson's election has created deep divisions within the worldwide Anglican Communion, a confederation of provinces that each govern themselves.
All Anglican provinces in Africa -- except for Southern Africa -- have opposed ordaining homosexuals, and several have severed ties with the US Diocese of New Hampshire. Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, the spiritual leader of the world's Anglicans, has appointed a commission to explore ways of holding the communion together, or perhaps managing a split. The financial impact of the African bishops' stance is unclear.
US dioceses and parishes have partnerships with churches in Africa and give money directly to them. However, dioceses also provide funds for the donations that the US national church sends to Africa, said Canon Patrick Mauney, director of Anglican and Global Relations for the US Episcopal Church. Mauney didn't know whether the African leaders were aware of this. "It's hard to parse this statement and to figure out are there any loopholes here or what," said Jim Naughton, a spokesman for the Archdiocese of Washington. Several church leaders expressed doubt that the very poor African provinces would reject all US church funding.
Mauney said that eight of the 10 African provinces that receive an annual
donation from the Episcopal Church have taken the money so far. Mauney added
that no missionaries had been rejected in the year that the dispute has raged
over Robinson. "I suspect they're looking for a symbolic way to say we're
unhappy," Mauney said of the African leaders. But Kenyan Archbishop Benjamin
Nzimbi indicated that the Africans were committed to giving up significant
sources of funding. ![]()

Praying with an intention
Rev. Samuel Muya was the guest preacher at the Swahili service at Calvary Charismatic Baptist Church in London on Sunday 18th April, 2004. The lively and jovial preacher from Elburgon, Nakuru, Kenya delivered the word with such a humorous sermon which made the congregation follow his sermon from beginning to end. Narrating his sermon with unusual stories from Kenya the preacher preached from the book of Job 13:15-16 and James 1:2-4 concluding with 1 Corinthians 3:2. The theme of his message was "trusting God". Trusting God in every situation that we may be going through and casting all our care on Him. It doesn't matter how long He may take to answer our prayers but we should remain faithful to our calling whose destination is in New Jerusalem the City of our God. The preacher explained that some people want to dictate God for the answer they want without knowing that it is the prerogative of God to give the answer He deems necessary.
Referring to the book of James the preacher said perseverance worketh maturity in us giving us the character God wants us to wear. He continued to explain that between infancy and maturity there are hurdles to jump. There are valleys to cross, there are mountains to climb but because it is the purpose and the will of God that we may grow. He gives us enough grace to overcome. Rev. Muya will be in Nottingham on Sunday 9th May, 2004. Contact 07947757073. (have a look at his church building at the bottom of this page).

A Swiss priest is urging his parishioners to have fun, by having sex. Father Fredy Staub has even brought out a CD with his advice. He says he wants people to know that the joy of making love does not clash with a belief in God. Father Staub, the parish priest of Waedenswiler, said: 'Sex is the coordinating point for every personality. Anyone who leads a subdued sex life cannot enjoy life as such. 'And Jesus also talks about sex in the New Testament. Why should I avoid speaking about it? 'The number one issue in confessions is masturbation, and I am sure many more do it but are afraid to raise such intimate questions in the house of God.' On the CD, various people talk about their good and bad experiences with sex.

Kingdom Wall
Builders Ministry
Based on the Book of Nehemiah
We are a group of women who came together when we heard that one of our sister had disappeared in London. This message brought us together and we decided to do something about it and we came up with an evening of prayer where we saw the hand of God. We prayed the "3 days prayer" where we told God, "Jesus was dead for 3 days and rose again, we want to answer within 3 days". The following day, we received an answer.
This led us to believe that our God is omnipotent, does not slender or sleep, He will do nothing unless His children call unto Him. This evening of prayer gave birth to the WALL BUILDERS MINISTRY. The Lord gave us the Book of Nehemiah to base this ministry and he said that those women who were there were the wall builders of the Body of Christ.
We are now inviting all women of God who are prayer warriors, intercessors or anyone who has a need that can only be met through prayer. Please join us for another powerful afternoon of prayer as we come together to build the body of Christ. GOD IS DOING A NEW THING.

"A have covered a long journey"
"Never let what you can't do stop you from what you can do"
To be come a millionaire, he has seen a lot in his life. Ram Gidoomal the chairman of Christian People Alliance in the UK and a candidate for London Mayor in 2002 and again this year 2004. From Hindu, to Singh then Christian and schooling in a Muslim school. Ram Gidoomal CBE who preached at Calvary Charismatic Baptist Church in London on Sunday 4th April 2004 is a man of nine lives. Having been born in India, his family moved to Uganda after his father had a tragedy death and settled well in Uganda. He moved to study in Kenya in 1967 at Aga Khan School, Mombasa where he was the first non-Muslim head boy. The worst came in 1973 in Uganda when the family was kicked out of Uganda by the former Ugandan President Idi Amini Dada. After tragedy hit the family; when his uncle passed away. Where to now? After escaping through Kenya where there they still have a lot of connections the family came to Britain as refugees and settled at Shepherd Bush, West London. "I am an African at heart, I know more about Kenya than India. When visiting Kenya my children always feel more Kenyan than India." Mr. Ram explained to the church about the need for Christians to vote. "Your vote has a lot to do with the government of the day. You cannot complain to the government if you did not exercise your right to vote and you did not vote. Everyone from commonwealth countries is entitled to vote while you are residing in the UK." the softly spoken millionaire explained. He explained that only 30 per cent of the UK residents voted during last elections and he said that he would like to see Christians in the churches going for councillors and MPs elections. "Never let what you can't do stop you from what you can do". the chairman explained
Mr. Ram who is worth more than £200 million explained that he decided to come forth with Christian Peoples Alliance Party in the UK in order to promote the aware of Christ existence within the UK people. "Whether we win or not at least people in the UK knows that Christianity is serves where in the minds". After the election in 2000 the party managed to get one councillor in Newham in the Ward of Canning Town South Councillor Alan Craig who is the only opposition councillor against the 59 labour councillors. Asked about how can one councillor do among 59 labour councillors, the born again councillor had this to say: "If the councillor is with God, God can work through him - the Bible says that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us" - Phil. 4:13 the civic leader explained. A 3,000 seater church in Elburgon, Kenya
Rev. Samuel Muya of Talents Revival Centres in Elburgon, Kenya came to the UK in March, 2003 to solicit for funds to build a church for his congregation back in Kenya after facing eviction by the landlord. His aim was to go and buy a plot and build a church according to his specifications to tally up with the modern days. After a fundraising in April last year organised by Kenyans in London he was given about one million Kenya shillings to start the work. He went back home and did just that. One year down the line he has done an impressive job and the congregation could not wait to move to their new premises but they have already moved into the new premises without the roof. He is now appealing to friends to help them complete the construction of their church as they have now exhausted all the funds. He is planning to come to the UK in the month of May 2004 for further fundraising to complete the building. His contact is 0734745609 or 002545131252 - email samuelmuya2003@yahoo.com
